My key won't come out

So I was coming home from work sunday, went to put my car in park and shut my car off, and my key only went back to acc mode wouldn't go any farther. I read up on Google and found put there was a button underneath the steering column. So I got my key out. Now everytime I get out of the car I have to do this. I know there is something like a cable in the shifter. Just wondering if anyone else had this problem and what I have to do to fix it. Thanks
 


I'd say atleast 10,000 to 50,000 people have had this issue before.

Either zip tie the button down or super glue it down or fix the issue. I'm sure there are a few threads with real fixes.
 
Look in the floor for the plastic plug that fell out of the hole covering the release button. It has a stud on it that holds that button in which you pressed to get the key out. Should not have anything to do with shift lock. When I got my most recent GTP, it was missing that piece and had a wadded up business card holding the button up. I left it, works fine. If someone has been into the steering column to replace the turn signal combo switch or something and the plug is there, its possible that something else is broken on the plastic cover and not holding the halves together tightly. That could let the plug drop down, even if it is present.
