• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

My first GP, at 17 (w/pics)

Hey there. There's a bit of my history in this post....I've been lurking these forums for probobly a month and a half now, reading up on what all I could do if I got a Grand Prix. Well, turns out I got one a week ago. It's a '98 GT.

But I spent every last dime on it ($800), so I can't currently afford to replace the tires and transfer plates from my current car yet. :th_laugh-lol3: And my job is very unreliable, and I hardly ever get any hours in.

My dad used to have basically the same car, 98 GT, until someone crossed the center line and hit me while I was driving last summer and caused me to get brain surgery and a few weeks in the hospital. (there goes 80% of my income for the year) Combined speed 100-110mph. Since then, he bought a 07 Grand Prix.

My past and current cars:

My first car, which I still have, is a 96 automatic Grand Am SE coupe. Green, 2.4L. Got it a couple weeks before I got my license at 16, and I paid $1000 for it, and since it was my first car, my dad paid the other $400 needed to get it. One day it stalled on me and started knocking. I drove it a couple more days before I found a cheap car to get me by. This is currently my parts car.

The car I paid $400 for was a 95 Bonneville SSEi. I loved the car. Of course it had all the options like the sunroof, leather seats, and hud, but the car was going to come to its death soon. I bought it with a couple leaks in the brake lines, I paid $30 for a set of used tires for it since there was no tread left, it was rusted through in a few places, the gas tank leaked if it was over half full, and it had 270,000mi on it. After 3,000 mi I picked up another car and sold it for $400. The next person took it on as a project, but overwhelmed, sold it for $400 himself.

My current car that i'm driving until I got the GP all patched up. It's a '97 5-speed Grand Am SE coupe with the 2.4. (The red car beind the Grand Prix in the first pic) I bought it with a major dent in the front, chipping paint, no e-brake, cracked windsheild for $1100. My dad made me get this, I did not want it. After driving about 100 miles around a small city with nearly no brakes, I had to bleed my brakes today, and noticed a wheel bearing was destroyed, and now im $70 in debt to my stepfather. Luckily he knows what he was doing and owns his own nearly professional shop. He helped me out with that.

And that's where the GP sits now. At that shop 40 miles away waiting for me to get money to get it on the road again. I just need to get a more reliable job and after the GP is my DD, i'll start my modding.

That being said Welcome :th_peaceout: Look around... lots of parts can be had for cheap and most mods start out easy and inexpensive

Welcome..

when it comes time to get plates on the GP. Don't forget that many other GM cars have the same 5 x 115 bolt pattern on the wheels.

Mm, thanks for telling me. I'm thinking some like I had on my bonneville. Not anything too exciting, but different.
