• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

So driving today, ses light came on. Pull off to O’riley auto to check the code…..their reader did not work, drove to Napa, theirs did. Got the fun loving and ever expected p0420 code. Knowing it had a good chance of being the cat( but I know it could be other things) I cleared the code. Drve about 7 miles light did not come back on…

Get home jump on here search for problems relateing this…and I come across and post from way back when that talked about extended service up to 120,000(I have 118,000) miles for the 01-02 models! Yes! Free replacement cat!
NO! I cleared the code and now have to drive the piss out of it in hopes it returns or they won’t do the repair!
Thought I would share my day.

Every week since I have bought the car it has thrown some pain in the ass problem at me….the worst being rebuilding the tranny. I’d like to start enjoying this car and maybe adding a few bolt ons for some power…not always having to run to the parts store to keep it running.:th_skull:

p.s.thank god for the search function and this site otherwise i would never have found out about the extended service on this issue, heck even the dealer was unaware untel i kept asking him to politely look harder lol

If you don't have emission testing in your area... just get the Cat removed. And then either find a local tuner that can disable the code... or simply mail-order a PCM with it pre-programmed to be off.

Not a bad idea either, But I can just have the dealer replace it for free. im also looking at the zzp downpipe. But not sure what to order for my car....just a plain 3800 GT :)

ZZP bolt in dp would work fine. However if you got an exhaust shop... get them to quote your cat removal. Thats what I would do...

I wish… shops will not do it around here even the mom and pop or shady ones. I’ve tried, they won’t do it on my mustang or my WS6

Big mistake deleting the code since dumbass dealerships won't take your word for it if there not seeing a code. I just had my cat replaced at 70k and deleted the code w/ scan gauge and took it to the dealer and looked at the tech and told him right off the back it's not going to display a code hint hint due to me deleting it w/ gauge by your forehead and told him go ahead and replace it before 80k hits and then you want to chrg me. total cost like $650 but not out of my pocket :)

yeah, But im sure the code will re-fire if the problem still exsists. and when it does ill just bring it in an get the fix.

dont delete.. just set to non report... still stored in the pcm

non report and delete are two different things. redcomg is simply clearing the code and all smog diagnostics. what goose is talking about is removing the code basically from existence on the pcm. lol

i know the difference... but deleting the code will screw up his warranty... non report, all he has to say is light is burnt out.
