My Cruise is not working. please read.

I have recently bought a 98 GTP.
The cruise worked when i bought it.
I have changed the front wheel bearings and axle shafts on both sides.
The tail lights all work.
The fuse in the glove box is good.
The other day i shifted into neutral while the car was moving and the speedo went to zero.
Any ideas why the cruise doesn't work.
 




green light on the dash, usually says "cruise" at least the regal does, but most GM cars light up in the dash cluster.
 
i thought there should be, but i dont have one. it is only on when the cruise is engaged though, correct? not on when it is 'ready'.
 
yeah, i think so, you need to be doing 30 or 35 mph before it will work. maybe faster. its not for local driving.

the way i use it is to slide the switch over, get up to the speed i want, then hit the button on the end to set my speed.

you can also push the switch more and it will make the car go faster.

hold the end button in and it will coast. or tap the brake and it turns off.
 


right, i have tried every time i take it out. is there more than one speed sensor? seems odd that the speedo would drop to zero just because the tranny was in neutral.
 
yeah that is kinda mess up.

so the speedo only dropped to zero the one time, or its like that all the time now? if the speedo's not working im sure the cruise would fail as well.
 


How often have you guys heard of the box on the fender going bad? sorry for the technical jargon!lol.
i have an extra car. guess i will swap it out.
 
Hopefully you can figure this out, but one thing to note, dont put your car in neutral and start coasting for whatever reason. Everytime you put it back in gear you are wearing out other parts of the trans more. When you let off the gas and just coast as normal with the trans still in gear the car goes into a fuel cut off mode on its own untill you get back on the gas.

Mine went bad on my 01 with about 140k miles on it. They are easy to find all over E-Bay, picked up a replacement for $19 bucks. Took about 5-10 minutes to swap out and all is fine now. May be worth just picking one up to help trouble shoot, I'm sure you can turn it around if you need to unload it?
