Muffler problem after new cat installed?

I have a 2001 with 105,000 miles. Just a couple thousand miles ago I needed a new cat installed as it was backed up and the car was very sluggish. I took it to the dealer as it was still covered under a TSB. When I picked the car up I noticed the car was louder than ever! I think I have partial hearing loss from it.

Is this typical when replacing a cat? Here is my thinking, the muffler was okay before the cat started to go bad, but when the cat started to go bad so did the muffler. The cat started to back up and didn't allow much air into the muffler and progressively got worse. Then once the new cat was installed, the air went right through to the now bad muffler. Does this make sense? What do you think? Any installation instructions or write up for a muffler?

Write up for a muffler? Go buy one and take it to an exhaust shop...buy some tips because re-using the stock tips is fail.

What about the muffler itself. I don't want any special sounding exhaust, I don't care for it to sound like a race car at idle or on highway. I just want a quiet ride all together. Like I said I'm partially deaf now because of the current system! Any suggestions?

Also, could I just have a hole in one of the pipes and not necessarily have to replace the muffler?

Dynomax super turbo mufflers are quiet as hell...and you cant weld steel very well and they dont like to clamp...if you want factory tips buy '04+ factory polished ones.
