MSD coils?

Ive read both good and bad about msd coils. Id like to get some info from people that have experience with them and what their thoughts are about them. I have purchased some but then i rad some bad reviews, they are still in the box and i have the reciept so if i determine them to be a waste i can still return them. Please help!
 


I heard you can just use the stock coils, and they are really for esthetic purpose only. I will pick some up when I start changing for the looks :P

I would personally keep them just for the looks or return them and spend the money on performance.
 
There is a post floating around here somewhere that actually had dyno results of a loss from the stock gtp coils. I think they only benefit you if you have a gt.
 
thanks.. i think i might put them on and drive it for awhile and see what i think.. ill post back when i decide.. wont be an exact science but its better than nothing
 
MSD coils are not needed. The stock GM coils are good to FAR more power than ANYONE on this site is making.

That's why we can run such a huge gap on our plugs, the coils and wires are so good stock Although I do like the PRJ wires :)
 


i have heard that that the msd coils are rated better for gt's and that its basicly like a demod for gtp's same with the wires. take them back and buy something worth your while.

that is because a lot of the parts (aftermarket) for these cars are based off the n/a platform. this includes the coils and double roller timing chains. they are not gtp coils, but gt ones.

i have also heard the coils have the same part numbers, but i dont know first hand.

Externally, the coils have different part numbers. But the internal workings are the same. There are no differences between L67 and L36 coils. My GM parts guy researched it for me since I was tired of the speculation. There's some difference in the plastic molding on the outside that warrants a different part number. Internally there is no difference.
