MSD blaster coil pack question

I'm sure others will chime in but why are you buying the msd packs?

Factory packs are more than sufficient, and If I have read the research correct, the msd packs have less power and are not as durable as factory.

stock coil packs work at any power level you can throw at them and the MSD coils are rated for the L36 coils.

well yea, i wouldnt use stock 7mm wires with them. its doin alot better than when it had the stock coils and wires, thats what they r 4, bigger more constant spark. also i got them and the wires 4 $60 shipped.

My reason for getting new coils is because my car has a little bit of a rough idle. I've put 2500 miles on the car and its thrown a random misfire code twice. It has new plugs and wires, so I was thinking it wouldn't hurt to replace them. I'm pretty sure they are original and the car has 127k miles. I'm not expecting any hp gains or anything. I was just looking to get some new ones to smooth out my idle. So, I'm better to just replace them with OEM packs?

I have no experience with the msd coils on our cars, but it sounds like your best bet would be spend your money on plugs/wires/fuel filter, and see what happens. Upgrade to a performance wire anyway so that if you do, later wanna try the MSD packs your already good to throw em on.

^^Agreed.

They are just there for eye candy or if you have the money to waste on them when your stockers are taking a dump. Your wires were probably on their way out too.

well got it all $60 shipped, not complaining. they work just fine. btw, i work at autozone and the stock l36 and l67 coils r the same.

No their not. The aftermarket companies list one coil but GM does not. L67 coils are different than L36/any other GM cars.

L67 coil= D576

every other GM= D555

(delco part numbers.)

Like everybody said, stock are the best.

Got it! I'm going to get some new OEMs tomorrow. I gotta get this rough idle fixed. Makes it feel like a POS. Thanks for the help guys!
