MPG question

Alright, I recently changed my MAF because I had codes for it and also for my EGR. I figured the EGR might be throwing codes due to the bad MAF. So I changed the old MAF but still get codes for the EGR, so ill need to change that soon. Before I changed the MAF I was getting around 28-29 MPG. upon changing it I dropped down to about 23. If changing the EGR doesn't bring my mileage back up, would it be okay to put the old MAF back in? It must be running really lean or something to give me 28-29 mpg and still run like a champ. She's a 01 GT btw. What do you guys think I should do? I miss that better mileage..

What kind of maf code did you have? If the maf was moribund then your pcm compensates by dumping more fuel to not risk going lean and chipping a piston.

I'm not sure the exact code. I know it was for the MAF and the other code for EGR. but I did finally get a EGR for my car the yesterday and it all seems to be normal again. Minus the stuttering in the low RPMS and mileage seems to be back up. I'll have to calculate again and post what I get.

I don't have those codes cuz I put in different EGR and MAF. I would have to find the old MAF and put tht back in to get that code

is the check engine light on now? or its just running like crap now?

with the car off unplug the maf, then start it, if it runs better now the maf is bad.

with it plugged in and running, try tapping the maf, sometime they start to work right. not that its the cure, its bad if it runs better after tapping on it.

Check engine is on still. I haven't taken the time to reset the battery yet. I hate doing it because I have to reset everything in my stero. But car runs like a charm now, no more stuttering. I'll have that calculated tomorrow when I fill up. But she definitely runs way better now after changing those parts.

Just hit up autozone or advance and ask to use the scanner to reset it for free, or just wait 40 key cycles for the car to shut it off by itself, but that takes a while.

Autozone stil does it for free? Wow, some guy at a shop wanted to charge me $25 for it so I just walked out. Light doesn't bother me that much, i'll definetly hit up Autozone next time I'm in town. Thanks!

the light should bother you, thats what its there for, its tell you theres a problem.

most parts store will scan the car for free, or you can buy a cheap code reader for 20 bucks on line. or if you got a smart phone you can get the torque app and a obd2 bluetooth thing for like 20 bucks.
