Motor Oil Leak!

Maybe put a bucket to catch the oil, then take it to walmart to recycle it.

Or at the very least, put some newspaper down.

But yeah, I would remove the sensor, clean everything up, and reinstall it with thread sealer on the threads.

I would also try to clean the general area of where it screws in either before you remove the sensor or after its be removed and reinstalled to make sure the aluminum filter elbow is not cracked or broken.

Give the area a good soaking of brake cleaner and a light scrubbing with a small brush and wash clean with a hose and see if you can see anything hidden under the mess. If you don't see anything, the hopefully the sensor threads were just not sealed good and allowing it to leak.

To reseal the sensor I would use Teflon tape.

well the sensor is messed up i think,oil comes out of it. not the other part.

can i buy it new? or how do i replace this part?
 
The connector in that picture......would still be fine.

the internals of the sending unit itself blew out. a new sending unit is around 30 bucks...or less.

just put sealer on the threads and screw it back into the housing. and reconnect the connector.

you should be good to go.

What he said...

It is the oil pressure sensor that is bad. Not the wiring connector.

Buy a new sensor then in that case, and replace it.

its hot today and i was struggling with the oil pressure switch. they didnt have any in stock so im just gonna put some of dat tape.

but the struggle is still going on since the oil line is in the way >:-\
and i cant take it out of the way, its like if it was screwed on with one of those pressure things ...
 


I used a little Teflon tape on the upper portion of threads...to help seal it. you want it tight, but not TOO tight where you are forcing it to the point where you ruin the threads.....

take your time, do a good job. it all pays off.....
 


well i just recently purchased the item.
and well i put on the tape you guys said and it still wont stop leaking. tried it again and again with new tape and still keeps on leaking.
this time where it screws on to.
 
ok well i found why its leaking on the sides now.
it has to crack running along the inside.

ok well i saw that u can probably replace this big part? but you would have to take lots of things apart.
is that so??

Looks like you tightened it too much and cracked the aluminum housing. Pretty much all you need to do is snug it up once you put the tape around the threads of the sending unit.


You will have to take the 2 bolts that hold the oil filter housing off and buy a gasket and a new oil filter housing. Look for the housing in a junk yard and you can purchase the gasket from the link in the above quote.

I would either hit up your local junk yard or contact Ed for a replacement elbow.

I have one here on a spare engine I would sell you if you don't have any luck.

Simple bolt on replacement. If you can remove the old one, and clean the old gasket off, and degrease the mating surfaces well, then the installment is simple as pie.
