• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Yup sux...was at in-n-out lastnight at a car meet..car was running fine
went to leave out of the parking lot smash it and it stalled out at the light
tried to start it back up car would barely turn over, finally started and was miss
firing horribly gotcut it off and coasted into the parking and noticed some
antifreeze coming out the tail pipe checked oil seemed looked ok hoping a
a blown head gasket? Could see the rear head had some moisture at the #6 cylinder
havent pullled anything apart yet or checked plugs....cars at 155,000 miles so im hoping just a gasket kit and not a cracked head

Pull your UIM, look at it in the area where the EGR tube is..

Rockauto sells them cheap. Your LIM will contain around 1/2 a gallon of coolant. Don't pull the heads if the lim is full and don't try to start it with the plugs in it.. it should hydrolock soon.

Yeah it hasnt hydrolocked yet and didnt notice any water in the oil
im sure theres some in the cylinder judging by the way it was misfiring
gonna tear it down tomorrow.so ill know for sure then..

If everything checks out and its just a gasket ima runs some cheap oil for about 50-100 miles and change it again just to make sure if there was any possible water.gonna send the heads in to have checked out and resurfaced also. Any tricks to pulling the lim off if its full of coolant?

Yea, disonnect the lower rad hose and let it rip. You have to drain the system anyway to remove the LIM as you have to remove the tensioner assembly to get the coolant elbow out of the LIM and block. There should be minimal coolant left in the LIM at that point.

If you find you really have to pull the LIM and the heads then just be sure you wash the valley/lifters out with some cheap oil and drain it all before refilling. This will ensure you get as much coolant out of where its not supposed to be thus hopefully saving your bearings :th_thumbsup-wink:

Also, when reassembling everything be sure to get new head bolts as I believe they are TTY and need to be replaced. Also grab yourself a torque wrench that can do degrees, as this is required in the tightening of these bolts. And of course don't forget to put sealant around the LIM bolts that go into the water jackets as it will wick up the threads eventually, and RTV in all 4 corners where the LIM, block, and heads meet.

So i got the car torn down pulled the heads off and didnt notice any
weak spots in the head gaskets...did notice when i pilled the uim
off i had lots off coolant and oil settled in the top of the lim....
now do mind you i have an hv3 insert thinking maybe the coolant passages
that go into the uim from the lim may have been letting coolant threw????

Oil water mix in the top of the lim..didnt notice any inside the lim
and there all plastic gaskets uim lim did notice the gaskets were in horrible shape.
the plastic gasket on the lim to the h ead it had started pulling itself apart from the rubber seals when i get home ill take a pic of it....sure my discription isnt the greatest..
oh and i also had very bad bloackage in the coolant port of the rear head...sure that played part in the heating issues...im sending them to my buddies shop tomorrow and
having them checked out
