More Problems = More Questions

Ok, here's the deal...

I know someone here just recently asked about their gas gauge, but i didn't want to clutter up his thread with my b-s

1st Question:

When my car is on flat (level as i can get) ground, my gas gauge fluctuates. I'll have the car sitting there idling, and I can watch the gauge move within 1/4 tank above and below where I think it's supposed to be.. Is my sending unit shot??

2nd Question:

When the car's once again on level ground, idling, and you rev it in park / neutral (I tried in both) The engine will rev to 4000rpm, I'll take my foot completely off the gas, the revs will drop to about 400rpm, the engine will spit and sputter and after about 7-10sec it returns to it's original idle... which at times may be a lil' rough

3rd Question:

When driving the car (around my large property), under sharp turning, either direction, I hear a slight hum or buzz sound. What' that caused by? Power steering?? Or the rack it's self??

4th Question:

I hear a lot of people talking about E85 Ethanol on this site.
Is there kits to run E85 in 97-03 Prixs? (Links to such kits appreciated)
Can you run Lower Octane gas still if E85 is not readily available in some areas??
What are the advantages for us N-A guys??

Thanks a bunch guys, any input is greatly appreciated

1. Yes its possible your level sendor is started to go, over time the fingers wear off and the readings become far from what they should be.

2. Thats the Rev limter you are hitting.

3.

4. E-85 is for making power, its not worth it on a NA car, stick with you regular fuel.

^I know that's the rev limiter....
My question regarding that, is why does the car drop to that low of revs, and act up like crazy
(Will get a video if it better explains what I mean)

1. Agreed, could be sender

2. Take off the TB and clean it. Pull the IAC out and clean both the pintle (round nose of it) and the hole it sits in. This is the most likely cause. PS..stop bouncing the engine off the rev limiter.

3. Yes, that is your power steering pump trying to push more fluid to a fully pinned rack. Normal.

4. The vehicle was not designed and no one makes a direct kit for it. Most will only do the costly conversion if they want to do it for the performance. Most likely it's not cost effective for you to consider it.

.

Ok i'll do that soon, and it's funny you mention bouncing off the limiter, the car bogs (spit and sputter) when you rev it to any rpm. I tried just going to about 2500rpm, let off and it just bogged... It actually shut off this time (first time it's done that)

I'll get a vid for you guys soon.

maybe a maf problem? mine did that didnt set any codes and was shifting all funny when the first maf went out LOL i keep a spare in the glove box just in case on road trips also have a new alt and coil packs with icm never know when your s.h.i.t is gonna break and leave you on the side of the road
