monsoon rear speaker wiring question...

so after searching tons of threads,i cant seem to find the wiring diagram for the rear speakers in a 04 monsoon system. im thinking of tapping in -before- the amp and just use headunit power for rear speakers.i cant find what colors the wires are though...everyone says monsoon amp isnt that good...
 


plus if i did before the amp i wouldnt have to mess with figuring what wire is sub and what wires are tweets for the rear...
 
i messed with it some tonight.i wrote down the colors of the tweets and subs for both sides in case someone wants to modify their new speakers.since the wires are easy to get to,ive changed my mind and will wire them after the amp and see what happens..
 
Sorry been so long since I had the monsoon.

I will say this honestly you'll probably end up hitting gutting it and going complete aftermarket. Much better quality.
 
thats what i been hearing,i have 2 12s in a nice box in the trunk with a decent amp...im happy with the fronts too,and i love the 6 disc changer thing in the dash..thats the best ever...just cant take the rears rattling and popping cause theyre blown,thats the whole reason behind this was to get rid of the blown speakers. actually thought about just cutting the wires to them... but figured wat the hell,might as well do it right. ive been in many cars with "premium" sound and i have to say that this set up factory is not that bad for what it is...but i also dont know how much the upgrade was to have it? that might change my mind..
 


I was so committed to keep the Monsoon but as I started changing things one by one I realized that I'm better off without it. I didn't do everything at once so this are rough #'s and I've changed the setup a few times.

Headunit basic alpine headunit $100-200
Now I run a Pioneer double din that was like $450-500iwh
GM04 module $100
Steering controls $60ish
alone type r 6x9 and 6.5s $200 ish
Memphis 4x100 amp forgot how much I paid
Memphis PR1000 $400ish
No center speaker anymore

I don't have subs anymore but when I did I was running a 15" Memphis M3

Obviously shop around and choose the equipment you would like bit after it's all said and done I'm very happy with my set up. The Monsoon itself leaves a lot to be deserved the premium systems like Bose tend to sound a lot better.
 
do you like the double din pioneer? ive looked at them before..does it only hold 1 disc or several...like i say i love the 6 disc changer in the dash...
 
Sure do wouldn't change it for the road. 6 disk was great and all but honestly I barely own any CDs..iPod/USB/sd card ftw
 
Ditch the in dash changer for an aftermarket radio with USB input, put all CD's on zip drive and then you can have your entire library at your fingertips.
 
Got kind of a similar question, same car same year; 04 grand prix...my 6cd radio is acting up, will swapping it out with another one that came from the exact same make and model work seamlessly? ie no codes, lock issues?

On the 04 and newer models the radio is programmed to work only in the car it was installed in from the factory. You can swap radios from car to car, but you have to go to a dealer and have the new radio reprogrammed to work in your car, cost is about $75-$100 for this service. That is why it is better to go with an aftermarket radio, then it is plug and play, with the proper harness that is, GMOS-01 for non Monsoon car and GMOS-04 for a Monsoon car. Before I forget, only 04-08 radios will work in 04-08 cars
 
If you want to keep things a bit simple get a used Monsoon cd disk, have it unlocked and you'll be back to normal for around $200 or so. $100 to unlock, $100 for the radio etc.
 
hmmmm.. thats interesting stuff bout the radio needing "unlocked" ..i installed the 6x9's today,went well,had to do some soldering for the low/high wiring..i used the old harness off the factory speaker and soldered the leade to the new one once i figured the wires out..which wasnt hard..then it was plug and play..sound a ton better,but still nothing to write home about.at least theyre not popping and vibrating anymore,the old ones were cooked!
