Money Pit

Good Morning Everyone

My Wife's 2 DR Grand Prix 3.8L

Is turning into a money pit.

Last Thursday It shut off while driving, went to auto zone told me the battery was bad. So swapped out battery all week no issues problem resolved right? WRONG!

This morning my wife wakes me up and tells me her car keeps dying. I figured it was out of gas so went and bought fuel for the car. Still same issue. I can get the car running hit the accelerator it stays on, with it being idle it tends to die. I don't want to take to an auto shop can someone here tell me what's up?

Only a money pit because you want to shotgun parts at a problem instead of finding what the problem is and fixing it.

Nice first post by the way... And if you really want help you'll need to be a bit more descriptive about the vehicle, i.e., year, mods if any and what else is happening while problem occurs.

Welcome to the site!

any codes that pop up? also how well was the car maintained or currently maintained? if you havent done it yet but clean the MAF sensor(clean with maf sensor can), IAC sensor(clean with carb/throttlebody cleaner) for starters. have you checked for any vacuum leaks/cracks?

Its a 2001, Just put a new vacuum sensor on it 2 weeks ago, a battery last week, new intake last summer, no mods, have not been able to get it to a scanner yet.

I think a CEL is only triggered when there is a problem with something emissions related. How is the idle when it is running?

hey guys what about the fuel pump resistor? mine would do the same thing, all i did was bend my relay prong and put the pump in high mode i guess u can say never had a problem sense theres a pic floating around here which one it is and which prong to bend i wanna say prong number 85 off the top of my head but dont hold me to it.

Well I'm thinking 2 things, hook up a multimeter to the alt and see the voltage and hopefully see 14-14.4 volts, and check the fuel pressure if no one has replaced the fuel filter it may cause the symptoms you are desribing.
