mods for mpg's

Not to blatantly fuel the fire, but I think it's kind of silly to want increased fuel economy for strictly economical reasons. Granted, we live in a society that's more or less run on petroleum. That being said, I think it's totally worth while (assuming you're able) to maximize your fuel efficiency.
Not only for saving money directly at the pump, but also for lessening the environmental impact as well as reducing dependencies on foreign (or any) oil. I think it would be awesome if one day we're all driving around in electric vehicles, or better yet, if public transportation was able to accommodate us to the degree that we no longer depended on cars to the degree we do. I live in the next city north from Portland, OR and the powers that be sound like they're looking to (finally!) extend light-rail here.

I guess the point is that if you drop x number of dollars on mods in increase your MPG, there's *more* than just the direct savings on gas to consider.

Speaking of which, I took my 06 GP on my first longer trip this last weekend, a little over 100 miles each way - unless I did my math wrong, I was only getting around 23-24 highway! Yikes! I've only had the car for two or three weeks - but I gotta figure this out. No mods yet, though.

first off also disagree that doing mods for mpg isnt worth it. i did a custom made wizzard type intake with heat shield and went from averaging 19-20 to 24-26 in t4 weeks thats paid itself off. next is the downpipe which if what people has said is correct they got another 2-3 mpg from that at current prices that takes roughly what 2 months to pay off. and you have a more fun to drive car. finally the best mod you can do for mpg and hp is the hho (hydrogen gas) mods im not talking about the bs on runonwater but a real generator and system is an easy 30% gain and 10-15%hp gain if thats not all worth it to you it was and is to me

Do you have an HHO system installed? A friend and I have been doing some research on them (he's actually building one in his machine shop). I'd be curious about any sort of setup on the 3800s.

sorry i havent checked this forum in a while no i dont have the hho on got sidetracked with life and gas went down lol. still work in progress. i want to over summer break though... how about your any luck?

Omg…Nothing like a resurrected post with nonsense propaganda.
For anyone who actually believes hydrogen generators increase your mpg, PM me for information on how to purchase fuel magnets, fuel catalyzers, 100 mpg carbs, and evidence of the yeti in North America!

Hey man a good generator is good for 10% increase in power and is like running 120 octane fuel, motor is now even quieter running down interstate. :)

Start off with a fenderwall intake or a cold air intake. http://www.getoverkilled.ca

I'll disagree here. Short ram would be the way to go. You want increased air flow, not colder air. Colder air = more fuel used.

So, aside from that, here's what I figure may work for better mileage (and reliability)... and maybe a couple extra horses for the effort:

Get a stainless ZZP PLOG, ZZP Downpipe with high-flow cat (3" if you plan on modding further in the future), new OE AC Delco spark plugs (Autolites might reduce mileage slightly), new spark plug wires (OE AC Delcos or better), clean your MAF sensor and throttle body, switch to synthetic oil, flush coolant and replace with fresh Dexcool, flush transmission, refill and replace filter, run a bottle of GM fuel injector cleaner in your gas, toss in ZZP's thicker alternator wire for good luck, and maybe get some tires that'll be easier on your mileage (not as knobby as, say, Goodyear Eagle GTs). Also, empty out your trunk.

I think I saw somewhere that using a lower temp. thermostat will hurt your mileage in a cold winter... though I have no way to confirm that.
