• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Modifications

I don't know if this is possible, but I was thinking, ok I was bored at work today.

I am not an artist on the pc, but this is just a ROUGH draft. Anyone else have some ideas or is this TOO many colors?

The shield and the hood insulator for shows.

And paint the rest.

Please put that flag on the cover, and send me some pictures..lol. That would def be different,,, but I am sure you would just get tired of that look,,, just go simple, dont overdo it with to much...

Yeah, I agree. If I can do that shield how I drew that up, that would be tight. Leave the rest red and change the caps and clean the rest up. That would definately be sweet.

Well here is the prephase. It will take some time as the ridges will create some havoc. If this does not work, I will just sand er all off and repaint her back red.

I think you'd be better off with some good wires that allow for clean routing (PRJ), removing the cover, polishing the fuel rail, and painting the ridges of the UIM in two alternating colors. That's just too much red going on. I think, then, with a clean engine without so much red over it, you could leave the mounts and dogbones red.

Would it be alright to take all the stickers off? There are some for the serp belt and others. Can I be safe to take these off?

If you take them off, I'd make you a little book to tape them in and keep in the glove box for future reference if needed.

I am not done. If it isn't, I will paint it back red. I think I may have bit off more than I can chew.

Dude, less is more. Everyone is right by saying be clean and simple with it. Get too busy it ruins it.

Here, look at this guy's UIM.

Take off your engine cover. Paint you UIM like that, only alternating black and red. Polish you fuel rail. Leave your dogbones red. Paint the mount brackets (both on the engine, and both on the radiator support) black. You're off to an AWESOME start with that. Maybe your diagonal braces could be black and red.

Pick two colors and stick with it. I picked black and silver all over my car.

I would love for my engine bay to look half as nice as David's, but I don't have the time, money, or knowledge to do that. I would love to know how to do all this stuff. I have the skills do some of this, but as far as taking all the stuff away from the inside panels and painting all that Black? How many of these cars are DDs, (Daily Drivers)? It is tough to do this when this ride is my MONEY. But I feel if I start with just the shield, brackets and mounts, the rest will look like crap and does nothing for the work that I put in.

Lets start with step one. Paint the shield, brackets and mounts.

I will be getting some black paint later today. I will then sand down the prior paint that is on the brackets and the shield, as these will be easy to do. Is there any easy way of removing the paint and starting fresh? The rest of step one will happen later Tuesday as I will be off for a few days.

Step two and this is not a time issue. I want to replace all the caps with chrome. I have the Radiator one already and I want to replace the wires, as I have not done so in some time. This would be a good time to change the spark plugs, correct? This will be my tast for this week. Any good way of getting around paying 50 bucks X 3 for the different color coils? Or if I leave them black, what is the best way to clean them without screwing something up.

Next thing this can be done anytime is putting some lights under the hood. Once again I am familiar with the process, but unsure to do it. I want something that would accenuate the paintwork. I was either thinking of putting two LED strips on either side of the engine compartment, or securing them on the bottom of the hood to shine down on the engine. I would have to have a switch to turn them on and off, just throwing some ideas out.

I believe Davids is a DD. Just remember, Rome wasn't built in a day. Your starting off good with what you want to do. Just take your time and whenever you have free time, pull a piece off and paint it. Your coil packs can be painted. Just make sure the bottom and posts are taped up good. You can get some paint stripper for plastic bumpers for the cover and regular paint stripper for any metal parts. And yea, if you are going to change the wires, I'd go ahead and change plugs to.

What kind of paint do you use? If I were to paint the inside of engine compartment, do I use a different paint?

If your talking firewall and inner fenders, I beleive he actually used car paint, but he has that skill. I have seen it done with spray cans and has turned out real nice. Just gotta make sure you prep it good. If you do that, go with a satin black, it looks more natural. It adds just enough shine to set it off. Gloss black looks fake, it has a want to be shine as I call it and flat black, well would just make it looked primered. I'm sure if you talk to David, he's a member on here also, David99GTP, he could probably give you some tips on what he moved for painting, prep work, etc. Throw him a PM. I haven't gotten that far yet and wouldn't want to give you any unnecessary advice. Other than that, I can probably help you with any other questions you may have.
