Mixing MAF Sensors

GP Modder

Good Day Everyone,

I have a 2001 GP GT with the MAF sensor malfunctioning. I also have a 98 GP GT that I'm using for parts which has a working OEM MAF on it. However there are differences in shape for the two sensors and the 98 one will not fit into the 2001 throttle body. I'm considering moving the entire TB from the 98 to the 01.

Does anyone think that this will work or am I just wasting my time considering it?

Thanks,

Tony

it won't run up to where it should since the MAF tables will be off. it should run alright, though.

What kind of trouble am I looking at with the tables being off a bit?

Thanks

Crappy MPG's...possibly tripping a code for a vac leak since the tables aren't recognized as the same.

Had that issue with 99+ tables with a 97-98 MAF car.

Hmmm, seems like the opinions go both ways on this....if its an easy swap I would like to try it though. How much work is involved?

three 10mm nuts and two cables. One for throttle one for cruise. Maybe cleaning a gasket surface if it's a SC car. Otherwise..not even a gasket clean.

Thanks for the backup Nick...although the maf tables are a bit different...you can get away with it.

OP.. Since we've established you are NA. There's one other thing you need to know. If someone hasn't removed it..there is a bracket on your TB that holds it with an 8mm or 10mm bolt to the LIM. I find the easiest way around this bracket is to unbolt it from teh TB and pry it toward the front of the car. Wiggle TB out and then remove the bracket, throwing it in the garbage.

I have done the throttly body swap and it appears that it was succesful. No codes yet but havn't driven it a whole lot because of another issue with the CAT converter. If anything shows up I'll post back. BTW I tossed the brackets, really in the way and of no use.

Thanks for the help guys.
