misfire issue, out of town and no tools

The one trip I don't bring any tools on and I got a badly running car. Anyways on my drive I did a pull to 110 just to have some fun and that's when I got a real bad misfire, it was still there while cruising to. Sometimes it would go away then come back. I was only out of my destination by 20 minutes so I babied it there. Now my car is making all kinds of raquet from the motor. I'm going to get some tools and pull the plugs and hope it's not a piston. I've never had any prolonged KR with the car since I started modding the car, going to hope it's just fried plug. Any other ideas? Wires are pretty new.

Pulled and replaced the plugs: one was smashed and covered in oil. The car runs like a top now, no noises. I figured with that smashed plug it would've been a cracked piston. Now I wonder what caused it?

chipped piston.

Change the oil when you get home and see what you find.

Also, your fuel economy will probably not be as great if it is a chipped piston.

yea man, something has to be flying around in the cylender to smash the plug........ these things do not happen on there own. something hit it. that something was probably part of a piston.

That's what I thought it was but there is no noise from the motor that's out of the ordinary, runs smooth. But I'll check out the oil when I get back.

Will do. I'm not quite sure how the plug should look but the only thing wrong with it was the gap was closed all the way.

I can almost be money your piston has a chip in it, just went through this like two weeks ago. Never found any shards when i took the head off but there was a chip missing.

Yup, chipped piston. Hell I ran the first motor for what...almost 3 weeks before I eventually had some help pulling the head off and finding #3 toasted. I replaced the plug a couple times too.

Yeah, you chipped a piston. It is only a matter of time before it goes and leaves you sitting. Not telling how long, maybe tomorrow, maybe 2 months. But it will cause issues.

did the same thing ... doin what u were doin. chipped pistons 1 and 3.. bent one plug and broke the other... i drove for about 4 months with it after plug changes and u would have never known they were chipped as far as performance or gas mileage... wouldnt do any more heavy WOT pulls until u get this resolved.. i eventually shattered a piston driving like a fool and got a new motor.

I just wish I could a light motor build right now, like a cam or rockers.

And anyone think the valves could be ****ed up? Front bank FWIW

The chip form mine exited through the valve and there was no damage, says the machine shop but maybe i got lucky.

Most of the time...it just drops to the oil pan if ANY of the chip survives...as most of the time it's just destroyed.
