Milky dipstick

GATVILLE

New member
Somewhat new to these motors. Pulled the dipstick today and noticed the oil was tan/milky. The car was sitting for a year and i just finally fired it up. Im assuming it to be the lower intake manifold gasket leaking coolant into the oil? Any tips/tricks on changing this? any help is appreciated. I did a quick search but would just like a confirmation before i take further action. Car is a 98 gtp.

yup sounds like the LIM needs to be done.

Gooogle LIM video repalcement grand prix, and I bet it will take you right back here to a thread or just search more on here, Its a fairly simple job.

thanks for the quick replies, im going to do an oil change to confirm that its the LIM. The exhaust does burn white smoke but its hard to tell since its 30* out. I hope the motor is ok.

To be honest, save the money on the oil change. Just do the gaskets now because you will have to eventually. Plus doing LIM gaskets require a oil change afterwards.

I did an oil change for ****s and giggles ($17 walmart)....well ill let the picture do the talking. ....fired it up quick after the oil change and what sounded like a knock, connecting rod/piston? maybe. Was too disgusted to let it run longer.

Let it run with the new oil for a few min. It should stop knocking. Then change your lim gasket and change the oil again.

milkshake anyone?

Rod knock is very possible as to what the noise is.

If so, buy a short block for under 500 bucks and swap it out and sell parts that you wont need and gain money back.

Yeah it may just be condensation.. Coles valve covers had condensation in them and it was white like that.... So yeah, change oil.. Let it run, do lim gaskets, change oil again

Havent checked the pcv yet. Good news and bad news....good news is i pulled the belts off and it seems it was there was excessive play in the supercharger pulley and thus where the noise was coming from...so no internal motor noise. Bad news is i can see fresh coolant mixing in with the new oil already. Im going to do the LIM gasket while i have the supercharger off. Thanks for the help guys.

yeah LIM gaskets, VC gaskets, new coolant elbow and a new supercharger coupler and oil and your good to go.

Follow the correct steps for doing the job and its easy, dont forget the RTV.

Yep... agreed. Off ya go.

Keep in mind if you have the steel oil pan that there is about 3/8" of fluid below the drain plug. You may need a couple of oil changes to get it all out.
