Michigan roads SUCK

Great article in the Detroit Free Press about how bad Michigan's roads have gotten since 2005.

http://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/2015/03/28/michigan-roads-rate-poorly/70608358/

Now our clown of a governor wants to raise sales tax to 7%, after he spent his whole first term cutting the taxes of his corporate masters to the tune of $1.7 Billion. The kicker is, all the right wingers and teapartiers in congress are too spineless to actually raise taxes themselves, so they are trying to make the voters do it in a special election.

These roads do suck...

That that "Clown" of a governor got this state OUT of the red and back into the black.... SO......

Its actually not just Michigan...the entire United states is feeling it.

The US road infrastructure has been underfunded for ages now and it is beginning to show big time. You can thank all the politicians that thought taking funds here and there from the money that is supposed to help fund our infrastructure would be okay...and now we have a problem on our hands.

This^... For more then a decade now the MDOT was underfunded.... I think this was the first winter in a LONG time they didnt run out of salt. Thats just an example.

oregon state and county roads are pretty good.portland city roads suck but most bridges are wwII era and are starting to fail

Now to counteract the issue they are pondering how to fix it, one proposal was to increase the gas tax from $0.18 to around double that, but it got shot down pretty quick.

Wait until we have to pay taxes on the value of our health insurance.

you talkin about the not so affordable care act? portlans city counsel is trying to impose a small business tax to fix city roads. its not going over very well since they are also tryng to impose a 15.00 minimum wage

That stupid ass AHA fee pisses me off to no end... Charge me to pay for something that i can not even use even if I wanted to...

dude that stuff like new still. NYC stuff is 1900's early. like theres stuff still in use from 1903. and yes its rusting apart.

roads out here mostly suck year round. winter just makes old holes larger and the new ones.

they did just do a lot of re paving around here this past fall. some of the damn worst roads got redone, those roads made it through winter ok so far lol

This is the worst of my drive to and from work. It has gotten much worse, but it is not Schenectady bad...(in case you don't know how bad that is, even trucks break there suspension and there isn't a single road in that county that has less than 5 pot holes per 100 feet.)

That's a good story, too bad it's not true...

I recently took a drive to South Carolina for spring break. It was unbelievable the difference the Michigan/ Ohio state line made. They're probably underfunded everywhere, but Michigan officially ranks last nationally in spending per mile. The next lowest Great Lakes state still spends $100/mile more annually in repair and maintenance...

You did read the part about PROJECTED right?

Plus when was the last time we had a state shut down? Not since that B*tch Canadian was in there.. The state is being ran MUCH better then it was.

We also now have a MUCH lower unemployment rate then we had before.. If you wanna admit it or not, we are MUCH better off now then we were.

"Businesses are cashing tax credits this fiscal year at a higher rate than expected, "

"
Businesses can redeem the outstanding tax credits at any time between this year and 2032, "

Seems the writer of that article doesn't know what is going on....

"state accounts for the use of $150 million in leftover funds from the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, 2014."

Seems 2014 fiscal year had some cash left over...

"
The Legislature budgeted for $550 million in business tax credits from the former Michigan Business Tax, which some corporations still use after Snyder eliminated the tax in favor of a 6 percent corporate income tax with no credits and loopholes."

just LOL.

In Illinois they waste all the road money building bike and walking trails replacing all the corner side walks adding those bumpy inserts.
My local road department is infested with lazy idiots. Every time they repave a street or road they screw something up underneath in the process. Sewer and water lines or something then they have to cut big squares to fix what they broke. in a few weeks it looks like a tetris screen.
lets not leave out how they like to leave the manhole covers and curb-side drains at the previous roadway level. I will be putting a third set of ball joints on my GTP shortly.
you have all seen it 4 standing 1 working. lowest paid guy making 3x what i do.

Yes, projected, as in they did math and figured it out. Let me know what your calculations are once you collect all the data they did and come out with a report that says otherwise.

I would credit Obama, and Bush to a lesser degree, for saving the Michigan Economy and any improvements that have come post financial crisis. Snyder has done nothing besides slash business taxes and try to balance the rest on the backs of retirees, the middle class, and working poor. Oh, and allow people to receive union negotiated pay and benefits without paying dues (right to freeload law). Oh, and they were busy this last week passing a bill so people can have pro-life license plates! Great use of tax dollars there!

Simple facts are, he cut taxes for companies (the rich), raised taxes on seniors, middle class, and the poor, and now wants voters to pass a new regressive tax on themselves to fix roads. We already pay some of the highest taxes on fuel since sales tax is applied to it as well. Maybe Snyder should use the gas tax money for the roads, as it was always intended to be used. Instead he would rather steal money from the school aid fund to balance the defect in the general fund, and then use the gas tax to fill the hole in the school aid fund. The whole thing is a shell game where the empty shell ends up being the road repair money.

I thought the right was supposed to be the party of fewer taxes (Taxed Enough Already, remember that?), but that seems to only apply to the wealthy and corporations. I don't see how anyone, left or right, can be happy with this guy or his cronies anymore.
