I know there has prob already been discussions about this topic but i couldnt find the thread. anyways im getting at the point where i wanna start some more building so i have a couple questions. meth vs intercooler or another question, something else i should consider besides these two... i just wanna push a lil more power out.. any input greatly appreciated..

mods:
plugs
therm
3.4 pulley
lower exhaust man
3" DP u bend delete
zzp tune

meth will never be a replacement for an intercooler. the intercooler will outperform the meth by a ton. it is just a cheaper method to cooling the intake charge.

you also have to take into account that an intercooler will become a restriction and make you lose boost, which is why people run such small pullies with them.

I dont know where your from but in Oklahoma meth is illegal. Sorry I had to. Intercooler would be the way I would go if I was at that point.

I have both an Intercooler and Alky on my car. I like both. The Intercooler worked fine as is on my setup, but I wanted an all time race gas setup + even more timing, so I did that too. I think Alky is a good mod with or without an IC. An Alky kit works better than most think. Pending the setup and mixture it can cool the air better than some IC systems. I think before even considering Alky you need a minimum of a Scanner, Tuner, and a Wideband gauge.

My advice, if you're going the IC route, go all out or don't do it at all. Get a full sized, don't dick with an SSIC. There lousy to begin with even for a stock GP IMO. A very disappointing mod indeed (yes, I had one on my other GP). Also, get a good IC pump and a nice and big FMHE. Also, i'd invest in a reservior too. If you want your IC to actully work right and work good you need to consider all the above.

Also, IMO combing an SSIC with ALKY is pointless too, the Alky will do all the work. If you going to cheap out on your IC setup, just get the ALKY and set it up correctly. Thats my opinion.

So to sum it up...

Get a Full Size IC and set it up right
Or
Get Alky Inj and set it up right
Or
Do both
And
The SSIC sucks

the intercooler for these cars isnt as cracked up as everyone thinks it is. if it was like a maggie unit which is built into the lower intake and uses laminova cores, then yes. now i did gain 8 more degrees of timing from using the short stack, but the gain with the meth is far greater on the 3800. you can do what you want, but i ditched the short stack for meth and i havent looked back, Tune Time Performance for the win!

try out a fullsize intercooler and i bet you wont be saying that. meth cannot cool as much as an intercooler can. the only way the effects might be similar is if youre spraying after the blower.

Inputs greatly apprecited:) for my meth I'm prob having my friends shop put it in and tune it for me... But I just really wanted to know if these were good options and if spending more was worth it ... Thanks

More octane from the Methanol + more timing + less complicated crap, hoses, pump etc etc = win

I have yet to unlock the potential of my setup....but when I can get HP Tuners......we'll see.

also I have another question, like I said I'm plannng to get a tune soon but I was thinking upping the injectors+dropping the pulley... Alright set up, yay nay?

Question, is there any gain in using alky if your intercooled? I mean I know it will raise your octane and you can add more timing and get gains from that, but will it cool your intake charge even more assuming you use it post intercooler?

probably, but to what extent? we dont know.

you dont need more fuel, you need more air flow. i would look into rockers or a cam at this point for you. unless you think the meth will be enough. i dropped from a 3.4 to a 3.2 by switching to straight meth from washer fluid, but i also have much more done than you.

throttle body spacer is easiest. otherwise youll have to drill and tap your throttle body or blower. i tapped my blower because i had it off already and didnt want to waste money on a TB spacer.

could be done, but harder. you could also tap into the LIM if you wanted, but thatd need two nozzles to spray evenly.

Would seem to me that a nozzle after the intercooler might be somewhat helpful. An intercooler cannot cool the charge any more than to ambiant temp. Placing the nozzle after the IC would seem to be benificial because it would cool the charge a bit more than the IC would be able to...assuming that the charge was getting cooled to somewhere around ambiant by the IC. I can't seem to recall just how close the IC gets the charge to ambiant...
