metal shafing noise goes away when turning on a/c

On idle sometimes i hear a metal shafing sound but it goes away when i turn on the ac it goes away, is this my a/c clutch or what and i can kind of smell electrical burning.
 


happened to me before i took the belt off and sprayed wd-40 on the AC compressor that noise went away never came back but now my AC compressor is going. probably not from what i did. take your belts of check all the pulleys
 
I'v had this problem on a 96 olds cutlass. I also sprayed WD40 on the compressor and It would quiet down. I ended up changing the compressor, it worked fine but it was shaving metal and loud.

As the other members have posted, the compressor is a possibility. If you would like, PM me the last 8-digits of your VIN and I'll check my resources for any additional information.

yup. compressor on its way out. what your hearing is probably the a/c clutch when it is dissengaged. once the a/c is turned on it connects the clutch to the pulley which operates the compressor which causes the sound to stop.
