Is it true that the HD trans has to have mercon 6 fluid? If so what would be the outcome of of using anything else? my car is a 2002 GTP BTW
 


Well, there's no such thing as Mercon 6, and Mercon is the Ford spec, anyway. Assuming you're talking about Dexron VI, then no, the transmissions were originally speced for Dexron III, but the Dex III spec is obsolete and has been replaced by the Dex VI spec.
 
ok so what would happen if u didnt use dexron VI...and yea my bad on the mercon,i meant dexron.
 
well "I" didnt put anything in..but i had a used trans put in and it ran good for a few weeks then slowly started deteriorating...now its dead and the fluid is a milky brown color.
 


Hopefully Dave will chime in, but milky brown sounds like it's contaminated with water. I assume it didn't look milky at all when you put the trans in? If not, the main place I could see it coming from would be a bad radiator.
 
this is teh 3rd trans including the original that came in the car that has gone bad...i almost wanna sell the POS...thanks for input though
