Mass Effect

Don't know how many of you have played the series, but, if you're even remotely interested in anything "sci-fi" (I'd hardly say I'm a sci-fi fan, and this is my favorite game series, ever), it's worth checking out. 1 and 2 can be had fairly cheap on Amazon as digital downloads, so that may be an incentive to try em out.
In my opinion, not only one of the best sci-fi games, one of the best story-telling games, and one of the best shooters. Gameplay wise, and storywise, these games are gems, and visually, if you're a stickler for graphics, they look better than some newer games, age and and other details all considered.

That said, anyone that has played them probably knows about the whole Mass Effect 3 "ending issues" and what not.

Anything beyond the line below is SPOILERS!

Okay, so those of you that aren't yet aware, the "extended ending" DLC for Mass Effect 3 comes out TOMORROW.

This is exactly what it sounds like... an extension, not a replacement, and they said from the beginning they wouldn't change the ending. Details on this are to start playing the game from the attack on the Cerberus Base to get the all the ending content. In the mean time, if you want something to compare it to, check out the Indoctrination theory video:

Mass Effect 3 - Shepard's Indoctrination (NEW) - YouTube

I don't think people are giving credit where credit is due. I liked it, everyone else is a dumb face. A dumb face. Sure, a FEW flaws and a few places where they "settled" so to say, but I don't think the ending is as bad as people say. People need to watch that Indoctrination video, it makes so much sense.

I've loved the series since it came out. At the end of 3 I wasn't sure what to make of it, after it sunk in and I though about it I like the ending. Sure the choices were really taken away and such but I got over it. I forgot about the DLC, I'll have to grab it tomorrow.

I still like Halo more :th_biggrin2:

Eh, Halo.

And the only thing even close to Gears is the MP. ME3 SP still felt like ME2. And ME2 was great.

I'd love to get into ME but I simply don't have that much time to sink into it. I may buy into the comic series though.

Oh and halo is still awesomeness. Started playing the anniversary yesterday. Talk about nostalgic.

Buy Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 2: Genesis DLC, and Mass Effect 3.

Mass Effect 1 is good, but if time is an issue, Mass Effect 2: Genesis DLC is Mass Effect 1 in about 10-15 minutes I believe. It's an interactive in-game comic that allows you to make important Mass Effect 1 decisions while learning the story. Mass Effect 2 and 3 ARE still time consuming, but you don't HAVE to beat them in a single sitting or anything. Literally, put in a couple hours a day, a single, decently-covered playthrough of either game is 20-30 hours. You can beat it in less, but you'll be getting ****ty endings or missing a lot of good details.

It's also important to remember decisions from every game affect the following games. IE: Actions in ME1 affect ME2 and ME3, actions in ME2 affect ME3.
The way I see it, if you want any other DLC for the games, Arrival for ME2 is worth getting as it has some pretty critical story elements, Lair of the Shadow Broker for ME2 is as well, and the Extended Cut DLC (which is free) for ME3. That's how I see it.

Just got done playing through with the new DLC with the end choice on the left, going right tomorrow night. They did the game right this time and I'm very happy with how it has come out with so much more closure.

Control was CRAZY weird to me, good but weird. I went Destroy. But the other 2 are on youtube as well. Btw, they added a fourth ending if you didnt notice.
I won't spoil it, just look it up

i picked up the second one to play through. i played it for a couple weeks, but it didnt hold my attention very well. i might pick it back up after im done playing oblivion (close, maybe another month of goofing around if that [at the end of the game, i think. just avoiding the dragon armor stuff for now]).

there are just other games out there i'd rather get into, really.

I'm about to pick up Oblivion again since I saw the DLC was out

...Oblivion?

Oblivion hasn't had DLC in years.

SKYRIM has new DLC out, and it's only for 360 right now which is uber gay because games like that are only fun to me on PC where I can mod them and have more control of my characters. And fix bugs manually when they break the entire game, since Bethesda games are known to do that.

And as far as getting into ME2 without having played ME1 or went through the ME1 story, I can see where it may be a bit difficult. It really is a linear series of games. Anyone that randomly picked up ME3 because they heard the series was good but didnt want to play 1 or 2 because of "time" and they're "older" is just plain dumb in my opinion, and I told them so.

Hey sean I too was a huge mass effect fan the plot and gameplay were incredibly responsive and elaborate without giving you so many options that you could get lost throughout the game as with alot of other rpgs. Another one you may like would be warhammer 40k space marine alot of similarities in gameplay and rpg aspect while keeping the games plot and action constantly in motion.

p.s. love the look of your halos :)

Yeah, I'm just glad they wrapped things up in a sensible manner. Too bad everyone has a desire to make everything end with butterflies and ponies and ended up not liking the ending for that reason.
