Marofan's high mile beater

Re: Introducing.....Corky...lol

So I've had this front end clunk since I got the car. It only does it when I stop or take off from a dead stop. I did new LCA's w/ bushings and ball joints, tie rod ends, sway bar links, and the strut mounts have around 10K on them. Any ideas what my issue is?

Re: Introducing.....Corky...lol

I would think if it's motor mounts it would clunk everytime I get in and out of the throttle. But it only clunks when the front end picks up or drops down.

Re: Introducing.....Corky...lol

I'm kind of thinking it's cradle bushings as well Ryno. I've noticed going in and out of the parking lot when the car drops it pops and it sounds like it's not so far forward. About where your feet would be sitting in the driver seat.

On a good note, with the help of Hitman, I got the boost issue figured out that the car has had forever. Turned out to be the BCS(boost control solenoid)..I originally thought it was the BBV. Only had half the lego blocks I should. Switched the BBV for one with 40K on it. Still the same. Then Hitman suggested removing the vac line from the BCS to the BBV. Boom. I built a damn sky scraper with my legos. So i'm back making proper boost, and hopefully I get my fuel economy back as well as that's been lacking too.

Re: Introducing.....Corky...lol

So I swapped the struts around between the two cars since I plan on going coilover on the purple car. Smashed the effing hell out of my pinky on the very first strut. Was stuck on the spindle and when it finally came loose I wasn't expecting it and let it drop on my finger. Had to poke underneath the nail so the blood would come out. The first time It literally shot out from being under pressure. Anywho. The mounts did nothing but fight. One of the fronts the stud came loose and stuck to the nut. Had to cut it off. And I snapped one in the rear.
My finger...doesnt look so bad from up top, but it was puffy as hell.

How it sits now. For whatever reason, I have no idea; the 4 door sits lower on the exact same springs/struts off the purple car.

Re: Introducing.....Corky...lol

Got the rear window motors/regulators replaced.
Passenger side was held up with a piece of wood.

The cable on both sides was like this.

And the driver side was held up with vise grips

And bam. All 4 windows roll down again lol

Re: Introducing.....Corky...lol

no f*cking way, when I got my car, one side didn't work (cable was screwed up) and the other side was held up by a piece of wood too lmao

Re: Introducing.....Corky...lol

Changed out the LIM gaskets. Nothing special. Went pretty smoothly. Except for the fuel lines wouldnt come off the rail...ended up just setting the whole rail off to the side. Then when I was almost done I forgot to put the big loom that goes to the front bank underneath the fuel lines and the injector wires wouldnt reach down far enough. So I just had to take the rail back off and move the loom under.

It's like GM knows and they're laughing at you.

Re: Introducing.....Corky...lol

Changed motor and tranny mounts and put in Vinnie spacers. On the motor mount I couldnt get the threads down far enough on both sides for the nut to grab. I had to leave out the blank sheet that sits under the mount for whatever reason. I cleaned out where it sits thoroughly but it just wont allow enough threads....anywho...here's the old motor mount.

ANNNDDDD. I STILL have the clunk.

Re: Introducing.....Corky...lol

I have the same clunk... I wish you would figure it out already lol. I had out techs at the dealership look at my car and none of them could figure it out on mine either. Everything looks in good shape so they had no suggestions. :th_scratchhead:

Re: Introducing.....Corky...lol

I think cradle bushings is the only thing left. It's got new LCA's with bushings and ball joints, tie rod ends, sway links, struts/springs/mount, and motor/tranny mounts. I don't think there's anything left in the front end

Re: Introducing.....Corky...lol

Thought about selling Corky for this

But couldn't bring myself to do it because I know so much about the GP's lol

Re: Introducing.....Corky...lol

you already have a gp, why not get a car that has potential to handle well?

oh yea i forgot about the cost of replacement parts...
