My maf sensor went bad is it ok to run with it unplugged. i plug it in and it dont run. Unplug it and its fine. Its a gtp so i figure it might be worse if its supercharged. Some people say it will blow the engine.
 


Thanks for the info i appreciate it. Im just a little pissed off because i just bought it and ****s fallin apart. Dont get me wrong i love the car.
 
You're perfectly fine with it unplugged. Your car refers to the MAP sensor. In fact when when we tune our Speed Density tables we unplug our MAF or turn it off. It's the base tune.

The one thing is without a proper tune in speed desity mode (Volumetric Efficiency) your car will run in "low octane spark" mode. Your performance will be more limited and your gas mileage should go down because your car is in a safe mode. Thats basically what the MAP sensor is for, in case the maf fails like yours did, to prevent your car from damaging itself.
 


So its ok to keep my foot in it, boost wise? Im just getting different opinions from others. I just dont want to smoke the engine. The maf itself runs 2hundo my cost. Thats redick!

What else has happened? Things are going to fall apart, especially since majority of the cars are high mileage now and many were poorly maintained.

Things from my experience that have failed.

1.Stock supercharger coupler. The s/c oil disintegrates the black couplers over time and you have to replace them. My advice would be to buy a green M90 coupler. I've seen them on ebay for $9.99-14.99 or you can buy them from one of our aftermarket companies and pay $25.00-30.00. They are the same thing.

2. MAF sensor. Mine went bad. Simply replace it. I don't know if it's true but the rumor is if you have a 1998 Grand Pric, get a MAF sensor from a 1998.

I'll think of more problems as I know I've had to do some other maintenance.
 
I know what you mean but i bought the car from a used car lot for people whos credit is pretty much rocked like mine from my divorce, my fault. Im paying out the ass and im paying 10 grand for a car thats worth like 5.

ZZP sells stock MAF for $100. Talk to them about your options and what you need. Don't just use them as some claim they rip you off and what not. I haven't had a bad experience with them, so take my words with a grain of salt.

Are you sure it was the MAF or was it the MAF sensor? Replace the $20-30 sensor first.

Your car is probably running incredibly rich and sluggish. Our cars naturally have a good amount of knock retard stock (refer to http://www.grandprixforums.net/f18/what-is-octane-kr-explained-here-1507.html by our own forum member Reptile if you don't know what it is.) I recommend learning all you can about KR because you are going to have to deal with it if you plan on modding. I wouldn't recommend doing WOT runs on it at all. It's not really recommended on a stock setup anyways. Our cars are badly in need of a tune out of the box. Drive the car like an old ladt until you can get some solid scans down on the car. Not to be confused with a Diagnostics scan. I already know you're throwing p0102 and like 4 others just from unplugging it. I mean a scan where you drive the car a various speeds in various driving conditions for a period of time so you can see where your car is hitting knock and what not.

I treat my car like it's worth $50,000. You should treat yours the same and the $10k will matter less. Just makes it hard to sell the car :) cuz no one will pay you 50k.

What year is your car?
 


I didnt know there was a difference between maf and maf sensor. All I know is its right by the throttle body with 2 secured torx bits.
 
#3) 4th clutch shaft... if you like to hit into the 100mph range then this thing will fail on your soon enough. Replace it with a $60 Hardened 4th clutch shaft. Not cheap to have labor done though.
 
well it's probably the sensor... it's the common problem. I know if you hit in the for sale section right now, check the guys who are parting out their cars. Offer them like $15 to $20 shipped. I think TJ was going to sell me his sensor for $20 but I found one at a junk yard instead. I believe he asked $20 shipped for it.
 
#4) Things you don't need! Aftermarket wires and coils... the stock spark plug wires and coil pack are already fantastic! The aftermarket stuff will fail quick and they flow their voltage unrestricted....
 


#5) things you don't need or to be selective about! Aftermarket fuel pump. Stock one works great with a re-wire.

Walbros are bad! ZZP apparently modified one that will not leave 5 gallons of gas (exaggeration) in our gas tank but they sell for a ridiculous price.

You may need an upgraded one way down the road depending on your level of mods, but some of the other users have suggested a racetronix pump.

Yeah i have an 02 ss slp optioned navy blue metallic camaro ttops, 6 sp. Nothin crazy but pacesetter coated longtubes, ory, slp lid, cold air. ill try to get some pics up
