• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Luke's GTP

Thanks cheatah. You da man, man. I appreciate the support! Helps keep things moving forward. Been reaching some important milestones lately. Engine running, car moving, and now off to the welder for surgery this Friday. Woot Woot. 2 weeks before I get it back. BTW, your comment on the other thread about the USB drive being a "drive" a therefore legit, was pretty funny.

And yes, the steering shaft. I've definitely come across that topic on this forum a handful of times. It's crossed my mind just recently too. Just this week I think Scotty posted the link below about replacing the shaft. Doesn't look too tough to do.

Post # 1028 in BHall's S10 swap thread has a little something about shaft(s). Get a laugh from the sloppy "rag" joint ... lol. If you was my neighbor, I'd be elbows deep with ya every weekend. Belee Dat!

Thanks War. Shyyt. The three of us, this thing would be a Mad Max machine. Or something from the 3 stooges. Lol

Just dropped her off at the welder. He said it's fixable. Rear towers and rockers getting done, Boss.

Before leaving I threw new pads on the front. Also fixed the squeal, was the ABS sensor bracket rubbing the rotor. Was rubbing on both wheels. Bad news is, I developed a brake fluid leak at a union that's next to the module, right in the armpit by the driver strut tower. Fukkk. Drove it like that anyway. Gonna take some doing to get it tightened in that spot. That fluid was just pissing all down everything on that side if the car. The brake and fuel lines were really the worst part of this rebuild, and they continue to aggravate me. Then, with ten minutes left in the drive, I felt a POP! from under the floorboard. Kept driving. Noticeable clunking and rattling now when going over stuff. Ok.... I pull over. Thinking it's the sway bar end, maybe broken subframe bolt. Don't see anything obvious so I get back in and finish the drive. Clunking the whole way. Still don't know what it was but thinking the subframe bolt broke. Maybe from over tightening it. Asked the guy to check it out when he has it on jack stands.

The pop was prolly a bolt hitting the ground then hitting under the car. It has happen to me a few times befor I re-registered my man card lol. It made a pop sound

More worried about what broke vs. the pop sound. Wish I took a second longer to check it out cuz now of course it's killin me. Lol.

Meh don't worry about it. Could even be a caliper bolt came out and it's bouncing off the rim.. you did just do pads. It's happened to me before

Welp... No updates until I get the car back. Or until the welder sends me some pics of the progress being made. Here's some recent photos I took.

Working on it in my sisters driveway. She has been very, very, opposed to me wrenching on the Pontiac on her new, white, driveway. Understandable. But in witnessing my perseverance with the project, she let me finalize some things before driving away on Friday. Notice the layers of cardboard, lol:

Just a photo of the engine... Looks like an ancient contraption. Love it:

Walking down Milwaukee Ave., the license plate got my attention. And then Pontiac, no way! lol:

My God CHI !!!
Your sister should make you wrap that car in a Hazmat Tent!
Clean that engine compartment!
And the engine too.

Mr. Meguiar Jr. Jr. over here. LOL. That bad huh? But ya know what, she's dirty and goes like a race horse! Just how I like it. I'll clean the engine bay when I pull the engine to re-gasket it. I imagine I will be going OCD, cleaning every nook and cranny. And then paint the engine, and do something to make it go faster.

Hazmat tent....lol

Do me Chicago style, eyh? I hope that means I'm getting shot! Lol.

And do a cam you say? Hmmm... probably gonna have to. I'm not going Turbo so I'll meet ya half way, and cam the b1tch.

Got 2 photos from the welder today. See below.
Was also told that this car, this beloved GTP of mine, that has been in my family all its life, probably was NOT the best car to be re-building. Because well RUST, rust rust FUK'in everywhere. Oh well. I'm in balls deep now, no turning back, for better or worse... At least the decision on which way to go is easy. Gotta get her DONE! Hopefully I get 5+ years outta this old girl.

Yummy YUMMY rocker rust:

Passenger tower on its way to being fixed. Not 100% done yet. Passenger tower was by far the worst of the two. You could fit your entire fist, maybe even double-fist, through the hole eaten by the rust:

Ordered up some rockers from these fine folks out in Ohio. Similar price to rockauto, maybe better quality. Who knows... American made steel at least.
Also learned a new term "dog leg". It's the bottom part of the door frame that leads down into the rockers. I'm gonna need some dog legs fab'd up.

I tried looking everywhere for dog legs for my 2001. I couldn't find anything. I did see some for Buick Regals and Lesabres though...maybe there are somewhat similar to Grand Prix's.
