LS1 brake question

i'm going to be upgrading my brake very soon. i already got the LS1 calipers and brackets. the guy i bought it from also gave me all the bolts that came with. my question is can i use the rotor bolts from the LS1 on my car?
 


The rotor bolts? Not sure what you mean there.

Use the W body bolts for your caliper brackets. You will need them tapped to 14mm X 2.0 thread.
 
Well I've reused them before. Make sure they are in good condition....and be sure to use a threadlocker on them when you put them on.

FWIW you can get a new hardware kit with the pins, bolts, and boots fairly cheap from NAPA. I'd do that just for peace of mind.

Yeah, you can either tap it out or use spacers. Let me look and see if I can find the website you can buy them from.
 


monte carlo. it's already came with 12" rotor set up, but the calipers are single pistons not dual like the LS1. i'm not sure if i want to spend $50 from wbody store for the bolts and nuts, but if that's my only option i might have to get from them. if somebody can post all the bolts, and pins size i need that would help me out.
 
I suggest NOT to use spacers. Too many times I've heard of the bolts backing out and damaging the caliper and wheel.
 
X2 on the spacers. I do not recommend going this route.

Many do this so they can remove and sell the calipers and they will still fit the F-Body's. If you drill and retap them they will only fit our cars from this point on, but if you decide to sell them, all it takes is a bracket to get them back to stock, no big deal.

I drilled and tapped mine, and reused the stock caliper bracket bolts from my Grand Prix with the rebuilt F-Bodys and have never had them come loose ever. I even installed them with no thread locker, not a problem to date with them.

While about every one I know who did the shim method had a caliper bolt loosen up, and fall out and the caliper will every time get damaged and will of course damage the rim. It always seems to be the top bolt from what I have seen, so as soon as you hit your brakes with a missing bolt, your other bolt now becomes a pivot, and the rim is what stops the caliper. It nasty when it happens.

thank you guys for the replies. i think i'm going to just get the kit from wbody store. i never done any sort of tapping before and don't want to screw up.
 
Dude, if you own the calipers, find a local shop that can drill and tap them out for you and save a butt load vs. buying the kit.

If you were near by, I'd say come on over and let me do my thing on my drill press. I bought a bit, and a tap just for doing these brakes.

If you end up buying the kit, think about selling me your old calipers will ya.

yeah that suck! seem like all the good lend a hand people live so far away. sure once i'm done with the swap i'll sell you my old one.
 


No problem. Is that the route you are going to take? They are really fast on shipping, esp. for us Ohio guys.
