you can do it yourself but be careful those things can be deadly if you aren't. i advise you have someone that has done it before and knows what they are doing help you out.
 
I did it myself. Get a spring compressor with safety pins on it. If you're too scared to mess with the springs than just get an already assembled set of shocks and struts.
 
its not bad if you wrap everything in a blanket before you take the top nut off. everything doesnt fly all over the place then. point it towards a wall too.

drop springs are usually a little shorter than the stock ones, so you can assemble them by hand most times.
 
I did mine myself. It was pretty easy, shop wanted $200, i told them hell no. Instead I bought a cheap spring compressor from autozone and did it in about an hour's time for all 4, I then returned the tool to autozone because im cheap. Re-assembly is tricky, those springs are meant to sit a certain way, the two rear ones gave me a hard time because, they kept wanting to sit cock-eyed.
 
did you guys disassemble with hand tools or impact gun? i remember my friends top nuts wouldnt come off with out air tools...
 


Hand tools work fine. Just compress the spring first. Get new top mounts, upper insulators, and seats.
 
I was thinking of installing shocks on my car, and i'm too poor to have a shop do it. so how much total would everything be for all four, lowering or non-lowering? I think one of my passenger side struts are sqeeking, anoying as hell!
 
I just replaced the struts all four corner on my 98 GPGT. I went with the Monroe "Quick Strut" assy's. Kit contained everything! From Checker, all four's was about $760.00 with AZ tax. Now is the time... Monroe got a "stimulus" plans going (rebate) EXP, all four quick struts= $125.00 back on rebate! What a breeze to put in.
