lowering springs

so in the spring, i'm looking at lowering my car, i have a 97 gtp. i figured i would get the springs, a set of anti pogo washers, and new struts. i hope this way, i can still maintain a half-way decent ride. i was hopin you guys could help me with other things i would need to get, or other things that would help with better ride quality, while still improving handling capabilities. i was also wondering what a good strut is, best value/performance. i want a good strut, but i don't plan on doing autocross or anything, maybe some drag racing at a local track, but other then that, just daily driving.

a good all around performace strut is KYB GR's. you can get them on ebay (shipped) for around $200. as far as springs go, the ride is going to be a bit harsher when a car is lowered. i've lowered 3 of them, and each one has been stiffer.

your going to also need a camber kit and something to help fix the axle geometry when your done. either a set of spacers or some shortened dog bones.

yeah, i heard that vibration under acceleration is a problem with some. i heard there are engine spacers you can buy, i belive they're on zzp performance's website.

zzp's spacers arent the right thickness. they are meant for cars that arent lowered a lot, like the SSC springs they offer. you can solve the vibration with the spacers or by shortening your dogbones so it pulls the engine forward. i did the latter and have had pretty good success with it. plus, it was free. i just moved the holes back 3/4" center to center and then cut the excess off.

i have eibachs. they give a mean stance and my car handles pretty damn good for being a boat. they ride like crap and im rolling on some kyb gr2s. the previous owner put it all on, so i dont know what the car rode like stock. after a while im more than likely getting some springs that dont lower as much and some more gr2s.

if youre looking for a slammed look with kidney bruising road feel, get intrax. they will put your car on the ground.

if youre looking for a little lowering but still keeping the smooth ride, look into some vogtland springs. these are the same as the gmpp springs they no longer make.

are you talking about the upper dogbones (mounted to the core support)? how did you shorten them, i thought they were a fixed length? i'd rather do it with the dog bones than spacers.

Luckily after (5) 97-03 lowered GTPs I've never had any vibrations. My favorite setup was on my current 99 before I sold them and got air struts. I had Konis and custom Progress springs, but neither is available anymore.

A lot of people have the KYBs. Either the GR2s or AGXs (more recommended when lowered IIRC, but more $$$). Vogtlands have a good following for springs. Definately the anti-pogo washers as well.

Can also add any other bracing or mount stiffening depending on your desired outcome. STBs, sway bars, endlinks, poly mounts, torque arms, etc.

how much do the vogtlands lower the car? i'd like to lower it but not too much (around 1"). are they stiffer than the eibach springs? where can i find vogtlands for info and pricing? i am going to use GR2 struts.

dont put lowering springs on the GR2's. the ride is horrible. i wasted money on that setup 2 years ago and luckly i found someone selling the GMPP/KONI strut package. spend the cash and get the AGX struts

my gr2s ride decently for having eibach springs. if i had springs that didnt lower as much id swear they would be a great choice.

so if i got the vogtland springs, kyb gr struts, the anti-pogo washers, shortened dog bones, camber kit, and maybe like, a strut bar for the front. would this be a fairly decent handling, but not like...feel every small bump set-up?

so the GR2's are harsh by themselves, or just in combo with the lowering springs? i might get the AGX's if the difference is worth the price. is it? i've heard alot of good things about the AGX's, but that's alot of money. i'd go for it if it was worth it for the ride though.

with GR2's the ride sucked, and im in NYC. waste of money on my part. its your car and youre going to do what you want, but im just talking from experience.
