water pump may cost ya at a shop, they like to nail you hard for every thing, its a easy job to do, really it is. youtube has a bunch vids to give you the confidence you'll need.


even bundled in with the lim im sure thy will charge at least another 150 or more. pump cost you 60 at the store, shop charges you 80 or 90 for the pump, and labor.

no new bolts are needed. re use the old ones.
 
you can expect the entire front of the engine accessory's to all fail at about 80,000 miles and up. p/s, W/P, alt, idlers pulleys, tentioners, a/c. if over 100,000 they are all potentially on borrowed time. being that your most likely not the original owner most of the time we/you have no idea if things have been replaced or not. so it kinda becomes fix as needed.

dont know about different part #, i went to autozone gave my car info, they handed me a wp and it fit.
 
I am the second owner and my mom owned it before me... I don't think any of those part have been replaced.... I had to fix the ac so that's good.... now should I replace those other parts..... except p/s... I just want to replace things that make sense since they will have half the engine apart... but am I asking for trouble if I replace to many parts at once?

Ill have to ask my mechanic on the price for water pump...

what are those other parts? Ill have to look them up..
 


you may get a break, but why change parts that may or may not be bad, thats just a waste if you ask me, hell the trans could let go next and you'll wish you had that 500 or more you spent needlessly replace working parts.

i would only address known issues, fix stuff as it goes bad. like i said its all easy stuff to change yourself with a 30 dollar socket set and some wrenches, less then 50 in tools you get to keep. anything large you dont want spend real money on is for rent at pep boys or autozone, not even rent, you leave a deposit and they refund it when you return the tool.


water pump should not take more than an hour if its your first time and taking your time, its silly easy to change. alt, to easy to even talk about it, p/s pump, also easy, its 2 bolts and 2 hoses. idlers are a nut each to change see what im saying here?
 
applying that stuff is just an extra precaution. you dont NEED to. if the gaskets go bad. that stuff might slow down a leak but it wont prevent it or fix it.
 
the lim bolts go into the water jacket of the heads, has nothing to do with the gasket. i'd use it, they leak, mine are leaking as i type this. well 3 of them any way.

just like the 4 large water pump bolts, they need sealant.
 


Hey andremike I see u posted about a month ago. U ever get that LIM done? I live prolly 20-30 miles N of u depending on which part of the City ur in. Did the LIM job several times. No issues & saved a bunch of $ & learned a lot about my engine. Perhaps I can help u out. $900 is ridiculous! It's really not that difficult of a job. Even for a novice. U just gotta follow directions & take ur time & make sure all the mating surfaces are spotless & follow torque specs. I have all the tools & experience w the job. Lemme know what's up. Can help u with the popular mods, too at least in terms of 3.4 pulley & supporting mods. I also have a pulley puller just in case & quite a few other goodies...

Either give it time or ..you didn't clean the bolts. Ehhh either way..give it time. Been there, done that, redid it after learning from mistake.

The 4 main WP bolts and all the LIM bolts need sealant applied to them.

I love the way the sealant I used for that smells :D Don't recall wat it is offhand but it's white & probably a Permatex product... I can still smell it in my thoughts ;D Hahaha... Wait, Permatex thread sealant. Yup that's it, Lol!!
 
Yeah Bill I did it 3x I think. Once on the original engine to upgrade to the metallic gasket. Another time out of paranoia to check & make sure everything sealed right due to "Boost Loss" fears/ the Boost escaping somewhere (which it wasn't & it did all seal VERY well), & again when I carefully put the metallic gasket onto to the newer engine after the swap. On the plus side tho I did that & swapping the rockers/ springs all at the same time. With the LIM out the rockers, springs, etc are a BREEZE! Lol the metallic gasket & thread sealant, other crap in terms of materials totaled something like $60-$70 :D It's crazy that places want close to a Grand to do it but it is quite time consuming X $75-$95/ hour. Sheesh... I didn't read the 5 pages of comments but sounds like something didn't seal right. My input: make sure mating surfaces are SPOTLESS & u best use a torque wrench!! Also pay special attention to the corners u use black RTV on if the install on an N/A is similar at that point of the install...
 
FWIW I skimmed and remembered I wanted to comment on the accessories going out about X miles. I don't typically see the pulley bearings going bad at any specific mileage, but they do go bad over time. If you hear/see a pulley going, replace it. On the WP.. I replace when it's bad, that's all. My current car's pump only lasted 201K miles. The others that I've had varied from never failed to taken off w/o failing. The truth about the bearings in the accessories is they are only as good as the percentage of error that we build into them.
