lower intake manifold gasket

i took my car to the shop and the gasket is shot, which is no surprise, since i knew it was going for a good 2 month now and i know it has been leaking coolant into the oil, so my question is do i fix this and sell it because its already done the damage? or is it gonna be fine.

Seems like almost all of our cars have had this problem and most of them are still running. I wouldn't worry about it unless you see some indication of there being a problem.

well as of now i start it up and it like makes a ticking sound, which im hoping isnt knocking, but its wierd because it goes away after the car warms up

i am having this same exact issue but i also have misfire codes and the evap emition control system malfuntion (code p0440 i think) i am about to change out both the lower and upper intake gaskets i hope the ticking in my car goes away i will let you know what happens in the end. i hope to continue driving my car i love it... well its a love hate thing good luck

May seem like a silly question, BUT how can I tell if I have this problem? Is it all about ticking noise or codes? Do I smell my oil dipstick? I have an oil leak, not to bad and I dont have really any symptoms yet.

Check for coolant or oil leaking around your lim (lower intake manifold) also check for coolant in the oil, it will make the oil look milky. If you have coolant in the oil stop driving the car now.

Coolant + Oil = spun bearings = new short block...ya I'd worry about it jeeves.

^depends on how far you let this go, and how much coolant is in the oil.

Many cars can or do leak into the oil, and once fixed run fine still. Depends on how long its let loose doing its thing would tell ya how much damage can be inside the engine.

If it was going to spin a baring it would of done it already. Most likely, worse case, the water displaced enough oil that the bearings were ran dry so to say, and you lost some of your coating on them.

BEST way to tell if you have severe bearing damage or engine damage is drain the oil and when you pour it out, look at whats left int he bottom of the catch pan. Have some direct light on it, if it sparkles, or looks like your panning for gold, then you have a lot of copper in the pan, which is severe bearing damage. Also might cut apart your oil filter, you can read a lot from what it catches.

I have done lots of LIM gasket fix's on daily drivers, there was probably some coolant that got into the oil, but not enough to cause a failure right off the bat.

Don't panic till you see whats inside when you get it apart.

The ticking, usually almost always a lifter. Nature of the beasts a lot of the time. If it goes away, then your good to go, if it hangs around, then one or all might need to be replaced. It goes away once your cars pumps enough oil into it to shut it up. Once they are pumped up, they run quiet...on a normal engine.

that code could be as simple as gas cap not on tight...

well got done replacing the upper and lower intake gaskets, flushed coolant, and changed oil. sad to say it is still ticking but not as bad and not as long it stops before the car is warm now. so the next project will be to replace the lifters, valves and heads i guess. yay

Took my car to a mech. he told me the oil pan gasket is leaking. I looked into that and find its a royal pain to fix so i think ill just deal with it.

And if I REALLY understood what I was doing I would too. I will pay to have it gone eventually, maybe this winter.

I could do that, I just read somewhere something about removing a motor mount and it seemed rough. Now Im not stupid just dont know ALOT about cars.
