• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Lower Control Arms

yep, napa has the LCA bushings. i looked up my grand prix on the site. i did have to search for "bushing" to find what they were listed under, but they were there.

I do believe I'll have to order a couple of those. I pulled my LCA's out yesterday and the bushings, while not tore up are certainly not the best of shape.

Anyone have the part number for the other bushing?

Also, Im just curious, but I have a couple of questions.

1. Can anyone tell me where the LCA has a tendency to flex at on the launches? Is it twisting on the straight section that leads to the ball joint? Or is the flex all in the bushings?

2. What all is involved in making a set of tubular arms? Now, before anyone jumps on the dog pile, I doubt this is something I would tackle, but in looking at the arms it seems like it would be pretty straight forward as long as the three points (two arm mounting points and the ball joint mounting point) all lined up properly and then the sway bar angle for where it mounts. Other than that, what other measurements or considerations would there be?

I think most of the flex people are seeing with the stock LCA's is at a hard launch with slicks, and most of it is in the bushings, and not the arm its self.

I have head of the flex being bad enough to where some actually bend a inner tie rod end on the steering rack.

I think adding better bushings would be a better step in the right direction than adding an additional bar on the bottom. Though, that bar, being used as a traction bar is pretty damn stout, and a fool proof way to keep things from moving up there.

My current GTP is where I want it, so when I plan to go all out on the other GTP, its going rear wheel drive, so I wont have all this fun stuff to worry about.

I'll have a whole bunch of other new things to worry about and deal with. LOL

I noticed on my passenger side LCA, the front bushing had seperated and the LCA was resting on the subframe. That is where my front end clunk while turning right has been coming from......I thought it was my upper strut mount. I figure I better change both sides when I get a chance to fix them.

I am about to replace my control arm bushings on the front on my 2001 Grand Prix. Will it be necessary to get an alignment done to the vehicle after I am done. Also..do I need a special press or is any press with some sockets used as spacers doable. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jeff

Yes, you will need an alignment afterwards. Not sure about the press or anything.

I plan on replacing the entire control arms here shortly. I bought a set from Ed Morad and I plan on dropping the subframe, replacing the LCAs and PS rack. FWIW, even new LCAs are getting cheap. May want to consider looking into them.
