low oil

I just got a 2007 Grand Prix GXP with the 5.3L and I noticed that my oil level is low about mid way after changing the oil, there is only 56k miles on it. Any ideas?

Its the DoD system, "Displacement on Demand" its where the computer shuts off 4 cylinders to get better fuel economy on the freeway.

It is very common for the 5.3 motor with DoD to burn 1-2 quarts per oil change (3,000 miles). The oil seeps pasts the rings on the piston and gets burned up. You can try replacing the PCV valve to maybe slow it down some, but General Motors says its a normal thing to happen.

Dod doesn't make oil seep past rings we don't have a actual pcv system it sucks oil from the rear valve cover directly to the intake manifold. With nothing to stop it.

I thought the fuel active management did the 4 cyclinder thing not displacement on demand wow learn new **** everyday

i just love how half the engine is off. You guys should really try a v8-6-4. they suck big time. When you in traffic half your engine turns off and keep in mind you have a distrubator still so yeah the timming is way off and cant keep up with the new input and demand on it.

the actual concept isnt bad honestly but i think its something reserved for strict highway useage 4th gear only and above 60mph

no hes reffering to the DOD connector on the VLOM tray u can disconnect it however you will be in limp mode and not able to go anywhere however if the CEL is disabled then youre golden, However at that point you might as well just have the tuner turn the DOD off in the tune. and yes city mileage is slightly better however highway takes a 2-3mpg hit

I do a lot of in town driving so no worrys lol um what's the difference between the dod and non dod cams? If I get a non I gotta tune out the dod?

Thank you all, so I will just deal with the low oil issue. The car is great besides that and the gas price for premium

You'll want to properly address the issue i would highly recomend that you get a catch can installed these cars suck so much oil through the intake manifold its not even funny

FWIW it's not just DOD, like mentioned..there's no real pcv system.

My truck uses a bit..neighbwhores trailblazer uses a lot.. lol

Agreed in stock form Its just the rear valve cover straight to the intake I'm convinced though all the plumbing slows down the rate of oil being sucked through the valve cover with the catch can. I still use a little bit of oil and by that I mean down to the next bubble on the dipstick in 4000 miles so I'm happy.
