Low Coolant Warning Light

My 98 GP Coupe is having an issue that I can't seem to figure out. The Low Coolant Warning Light comes on & off. Sometimes it stays on for a couple of days. I have checked the coolant level in the radiator and in the overflow off and on over the past couple of months and it is always fine. The engine temp is always within range. I suspect it may be a bad sensor, but I have not been able to determine where the sensor is located.
If anyone else has experienced this or has any idea of what it may be, I would appreciate some guidance.:th_scratchhead:
 


The sensor is located on the passengerside of the radiator in the black end tank. It's just below the top transmission cooler line.
 
BillBoost, thanks for the information. I assume that it is on the engine side and not the grille side (I'm at work and the car is at home so I can't look at it)? And, just to be clear, you are talking about the Low Coolant sensor and not a temperature sensor? Have you replaced one of these before? Do you know if I can pick one up at NAPA or Advance Auto or do I need to order from the General?

The sensor should be avaible at most local parts stores. I think about $30.

FWIW, if you just unplug the sensor, the light will go off. In case you were wondering.

Glad I could help.

When you pull the sensor, there will be some coolant leaking. Or there should be. If there isn't, there is a chance the hole is clogged up with gunk. Or if you drain the coolant like the pic says, it won't leak either.

But make sure the hole is cleaned out. Sometimes it will even work to pull the sensor, clean the end of it, clean the hole, and reinstall. But when all else fails, replace it.
 
I just jumped my friends car and now my coolant light is flashing on an off like every 5 seconds. I dont know if the two have anything to do with each other, but maybe my sensor is just bad?
 
The sensor is probably gunked up with dexcool. You can either clean it, replace it or leave it unplugged.
