loud lifter noise any ideas?

just got a 2001 gtp 107k mi purchased at auction probably repo, car runs out good everywhere else pulled a code po306 changed the plug, has great spark yet missing on that cylinder. so it runs rough with a loud lifter noise in the back bank. engine seems to be very sludgy. lifter noise goes along with the engine rpms. any help with step by step procedures to narrow it down thanks

did you replace the wire? if it's a ticking noise it could be a bad wire.

no, didnt replace wire. I have spark to the plug. its also not that kind of ticking. its more of a loud clattering in the top end, the po306 code is a hard fault code, comes back right away. I have run engine flush to try and dissolve sludge not much help. thanks probably going to have to remove the valve cover. wondering on the difficulty level.
