lost a screw below the balancer shaft... like a boss

this is what im talking about, not sure what it is exactly but the sensor that plugs in there on my car says "sensor, pressure". theres a "L" shaped plastic tube that comes off the bottom of that sensor inside the intake manifold. I put a new reinforced manifold on last week. after it started smoking from the exhaust, i pulled it off and the little plastic tube was just free floating around inside the manifold.

I understand that a cracked upper intake or blown LIM gasket would let coolant into the cylinder, but would either of those also explain the large amounts of oil inside the exhaust manifold and downpipe?
 
Haven't read your whole thread.. A lot of oil can enter the cylinders if you pulled the two hidden bolts w/o mopping up all the oil that was in the LIM. In that case..it drained down and entered a cylinder. Now it's burning off/out. No big deal...but not ideal.

lol dont bother reading the whole thread, kinda on a sidetrack here....but what if the oil got in the exhaust and coolant got in the cylinder after the LIM and a new UIM were reinstalled and the car driven for a day? i did use a turkey baster (dont tell my wife!) to suck out all the oil that was in the LIM prior to removal so dont think that was the problem...
 
not sure exactly how bad it is bill. lol heres the whole story. upper intake was leaking last week so got a new one and replaced it. also replaced LIM gasket, coolant, and oil at the same time. once the car was put back together, i drove it on and off for about a day with no problems. that evening, i started it up and it immediately started billowing white smoke out of the exhaust. i let it run for about five minutes to see if maybe it would clear up but no such luck. drained oil and found that about a quart and a half had pulled a vanishing act, but what remained showed no sign of having mixed with coolant. so far in my search for the problem i have removed both intake manifolds and the front head, as well as all exhaust from downpipe forward. both exhaust manifolds are thoroughly coated in oil on the inside, downpipe is the same. there was a little bit of coolant in the front cylinders, but no oil. to be honest, i have no idea what im doing, lol just taking **** apart til i find something that looks broken....
RANDOM FACTS (possibly relevant)
1. upper intake is new reinforced design, installed last week
2. one of the coolant ports in the rear head was completely clogged when i took off lower manifold last week, shop-vac'd it out. (the leftmost of the two little square holes in between the 3 big rectangular ones)
3. broke a LIM bolt and replaced it and one other with new bolts that were same length and threading, but were not officially intake bolts
4. the little plastic tube inside the upper intake (see previous post for picture) was free floating around when i pulled UIM back off
5. there was no smoke whatsoever for the first 12 hours after reinstalling the manifolds last week.

That would be the MAP sensor. The little L shaped tube should've snapped into place onto the UIM gasket. It has little brackets, I guess you can call them, that holds it in place. Not sure exactly what it does but it does connect to the MAP sensor housing.

Did you put new exhaust manifold gaskets? Also there are 2 hidden bolts on the LIM that need to have red loctite or however you spell it on them when you reinstall them. Let me post a link to a how to for the LIM and UIM. Maybe you can backtrace your steps and see if you missed anything.
 
thanks for the link Lucky. thats a great guide. lol so now I have a new series of questions since i pulled off the head for no reason.
1. since the head and hg were perfectly fine, do i still have to get the head resurfaced by a shop before putting it back on?
2. do i have to pull the rear head off to see if there's any coolant in the cylinder like there was in the front one, or can i just replace the LIM and let it burn itself out?
3. i have a high flow cat, is that gonna need to be replaced from the oil that got in the exhaust or can/should i clean it somehow?

from doing my own LIM gasket replacements and knowing how it looks/works. It would be mighty hard to get oil into the intake through the LIM gasket. However the heads oil returns do go through the gasket. If the vacuum being pulled on the intake seal is leaking and you somehow managed to have oil leaking past the new gasket also I guess there might be a chance the intake could be sucking it in.

were proper torque specs and sequence used on the LIM?
 


Ok.. here's what I'm thinking. You have vacuum in the crankcase now. If the motor were together you could check by removing the valve cover cap while it was running. I'm thinking you are missing the o-ring that should go on the PCV below the ridge on it. That seals the pcv to housing. Then the pcv should rattle when shaken lightly. That piece inside keeps anything of substance from passing through the pcv. Then on top of the pcv is the cap which has a spring and seal on it.

It was pretty straight forward when you filled in a few things I was assuming had been done or were not done

lol i still have to put the front head back on along with everything that came off to get that off, so wont be quite as easy as it could have. it been pretty damn cold here the last week, though nothing like those poor bastards up north are getting. i still havent gotten around to putting anything back together. debating having a mobile mechanic come bolt the head and LIM back on to torque...manual says you need some kind of angle-measuring wrench that i dont have. lol and i really dont want to screw up putting the head back on, it was bad enough when i just thought i had a blown HG. hopefully going to start on it in the next couple days. but if not, it is supposed to get back up into the 60's all weekend:cool:
 
do you know the torque specs on the head and rocket bolts off hand? i know the start pattern part but beyond that...lol
