Loosing coolant, engine running hot and rough

Hey all first post just registered.

So my 99 grand prix gtp with 233,xxx miles started loosing coolant then ran a tad hot about a month ago so i just refilled the overflow tank and it was all good but in the last week or two the engine heats up quickly and runs pretty hot. After running awhile there is the sweet smell of anti freeze outside the car, not too strong though. The heat is taking longer than usual to warm up as well. It also has started running kind of rough when in idle, Im not sure if that is related to this or not.
I just changed my oil and did not notice anything in there, nothing milky, watery, ect. I cannot detect any leaks either, tried putting cardboard down, no leaks underneath the engine. Only thing I could thing of is it is coming out my tail pipe?
The check engine light just came on so I am going to get that read now, also going to check the radiator to see if there is any antifreeze actually in there or if the antifreeze is just staying in the overflow tank and not getting to the radiator.

Any ideas or advice would be great thanks :th_thumbsup-wink:

I'd be willing to bet that the CEL will come up as a misfire on cyl #x, either that or multiple misfires. I'm with Bill on this one. Sounds like time for LIM gasket replacement.

From my knowledge it has not been replaced, in the last 40k miles that is. So I took a better look at it and was able to find a small in the hose that goes from the radiator to the overflow tank but that part is discontinued according to the GM dealership so I took a hose about the same size and used that until the part off the internet arrives. Do you guy still think I should replace the LIM gasket?

If it still has the black plastic gaskets, then yes. I'm sure your motor is probably dirty, but you should be able to see the color of the gaskets. I'm sure your going to have to clean oil and crap off, but you should be able to see if its black (plastic) or silver (metal) which would be what you want are the metal ones.
