Loose wire, hard shifting. Thoughts?

I've got a loose wire in my 01 Grand Prix. Anyone know what it may go to? I've looked all around and couldn't find anything it should go to. The car's also shifting hard between 1st and 2nd, any possible thoughts? I've already replaced the front wheel speed sensor, and harness, as I had an ABS code. The code's gone now, however I still have a P0137. Here's a pic of the lose wire, it's under the plastic engine cover when you remove it.

That wire is for emissions and is only used in certain states. California is one, or possibly the only.

From obd-codes.com: P0137: Oxygen O2 Sensor Circuit Low Voltage (Bank 1, Sensor 2)

A code P0137 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
Faulty o2 sensor
Exhaust leak near the rear sensor
Plugged catalyst
Short to voltage on O2 signal circuit
High resistance or open on O2 signal circuit

How many miles are on the trans?

More than likely that plug-in for the air pump system that your car doesnt have. Was cheaper to make 1 harness instead of 2 different ones.

P0137 is a o2 sensor code, so look into that for seeing how to go about fixing it.

As for the harsh shifts, go to triple edge performace's website and see what comes up in the common problems page, your issue may be there.

I've heard several possibilities. 1: the pressure control solenoid, 2: change the fluid and filter, 3: a fuse might be blown that tells the tranny when to shift.

I checked 3e performance, the only solutions are if there are certain codes thrown. No transmission codes have been thrown. The only code is the emissions system.

Ok well answer these to give a bit more info.

1. What is the transmission's fluid level and color?
2. Is 1-2 the only shift that is harsh?
3. Does it get worse or better as it warms up? Or is is just as bad at any temperature?
4. Is it ever intermittent or is the 1-2 shift harsh 100% of the time?
5. When was the last transmission service?
6. Is the transmission functioning normal in every other aspect?

02NavyBlue:
1. Transmission fluid was reddish, level seemed fine.
2. 1-2 is typically the only harsh, sometimes it works fine, sometimes it waits till I'm redlining before it shifts. (I typically let off the gas for a bit if this happens)
3. It stays the same warm, cold, rain, or shine.
4. It's intermittent. Yesterday after I replaced the wheel speed sensor and harness, it seemed to function a little better briefly... It may be in my head though, it's still choppy.
5. Transmission service. uhhhh....
6. Is it functioning normally? I'm not sure what you mean by this. The car goes into drive, reverse, neutral, etc fine. Once it gets past 1st it seems to be fine. It's done this for probably a year or 2. (My wife's car) We were going to sell it, then I decided to try to fix it, as the car has more features than my own.

I believe regular scanners will pull current trans codes, but if you want stored ones you need to get a good scan tool. If you get a check engine light for a trans code, leave the key on and use a scanner. I've heard some codes will reset when the key is removed. Like how max adapt goes away when shutting the car off and restarting, until the computer commands it again.

I'll take "uhhhh...." as in you don't know the history.

And by it "functioning normal in every other aspect" means there are no other symptoms like sounds it may make, or other much smaller problems it may have that could be a clue of the main problem.
For example if it was making a slight whine noise the filter may be clogged.

Ok so the 1-2 shift is harsh and at the incorrect time. Do the two always go hand in hand? If it's shifting way too late a harsh shift will probably always be felt. Or does it sometimes shift at the right time but still harsh?

It had a whining noise a while ago, but I topped off the power steering fluid, and that was the end of that. And yes, "uhhhh" was meaning I didn't know the history. We bought the vehicle (very) used, and have never worked on the transmission. I don't know much about cars, but have delved into this one, trying to get it running well again.

Typically late and harsh. At the (seldom) times it does shift at the correct time, it's much smoother. Not perfect, but definitely not as violent.

Ok well since they go hand in hand, and the problem starts with a late shift, I'd say it's safe to say the late shifting should be looked into first. Sometimes it's caused by a bad throttle position sensor. It relies off the TPS to know how much gas you're giving it, and to shift accordingly. It it's giving a false reading once in a while it can easily cause this. Of course there could a number of other causes but this is definitely the cheapest place to start. I'm not an expert with transmissions, but there are a few guys on this forum who know their way around 4t65e's real well. With the info you provided they may have better advice on this problem. I'm sure they'll be stopping by soon.

This is my first forum. You think more people will give their thoughts too? Thanks.

Late shift is likely causing max adapt. Reddish fluid, I'll take that as an ugly color if you wipe if on a white cloth or paper towel.

My suggestion would be to pan drop service, put in a transgo shift kit and a bottle of lucas stop slip when you refill. Drive 100 or so miles before beating it at all.
