Looking to start my GTP addiction up again.

Hello, my name is Ed and i'm looking for a GTP. Alittle history, my first car was a 97 gtp when I was 18 years old (6 years ago), I frigging loved that car. I would like to say I mod'ed it, drove the wheels off of it, plowed a girl in the back seat, and raced unsuspecting cars, but two week later an old woman plowed into me (lol?) and took all those chances away. I got a GT after that, which sucked. Then a blazer, then a ZR2 s10, in which two weeks ago another old lady plowed into me. Now I feel I must "go back to my roots" and start over with my first car. If you guys in the new england area find a 99-02 coupe GTP with around or less then 100k on it, let me know. Thanks in advance and it's good to be here, I look forward to getting a GTP again and be a member in good standing. (i'll try anyway)

welcome...but why 99-02?....97, 98, an 03 are the same style

I'm aware that they're the same style, but 97-98 they might not be in as good condition as I want, plus 97 from what i've read has the not so good transmission, and 99+ have the redesigned intake(a small point, but one less thing I need to do). I forgot about 03's, point taken.

welcome

the 03's have the better tranny and shiz. But the only downside is that you cant use others trannys (97-02) in the car if you so happen to blow it up and same with the pcm, its different than all the other years.

Thanks man! I was wondering if I was foreveralone.jpeg in CT, lol.

Welcome!

I can understand you plowing your girl in the back seat.....but I notice that later you mention you swapped for two old women that plowed you? So the plower became the plowee and the girl became an old woman?

What do you guys think of a 2001 GTP coupe with 110k, "very well maintained" and in seemingly great condition for 5 grand? Obviously it seems like a good deal and it's 10 miles away from me, but I have the midset of "it's 110k on it, that's really high to me". However as short of a time i've been here some of your GP's look like they've been around the block, many many many times and still look good lol. I'm thinking of making a phone call to the owner tomorrow. Anything I should look for specifically when/if I see it? Check for leaks around a certain area? Is there anything that should be replaced around this age/mileage? If so, I assume I should ask if it was replace/inspected?

5k sounds a little high for a gtp with 110k on it IMO. Depends what you are willing to pay though i guess...

I blue book'd it, granted I take KBB with a grain of salt but it says a gtp like the one i'm looking at in excellent condition is $5,785. What would you pay for said gtp? I would see if I can haggle to say $4500~. I'm still banking on this being in excellent condition.

Take it for a drive and make sure it's solid. Check the lower intake manifold gasket. If it has never been replaced, it needs it. Look at the front bushings on the lower control arms. They tear and/or separate from the control arm. Check the wheel bearings for play. Being a New England car, I would look at the rockers along the pinch weld and see how bad the rust is. I've seen some GP's that had scary amounts of rust there. Good luck with the search and welcome to the forums.

03 didnt come in a coupe only a sedan Im pretty sure

haha thanks i'll change it back to "99-02" again.

Great, thanks alot man for all the info.

I bought my 01' in Connecticut with 126K for $3,800 in excellent shape, so I think you should be able to get yours for less than 5K....Pull the oil cap off and check for the foam/water droplets

If you're going to spend 5K maybe check this out, not sure if its your style: 1999 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GTP

Wow ok i'll keep my eyes open thanks man. I guess price is not that much of an issue at this point due to my s10 being totaled and the womans insurance company says it's worth over 8k even with 140k on it. Gotta love pickup ZR2's resale value. Heck I Paid 9k for it over three years ago.

EDit- I'm looking at gtp's, you paying 3,800 seems about right for a GT around here, judging from what I've been seeing price wise. Thanks for that link i'll be sure to follow up on that.
