Looking To Get 07 gtp

Hey guys so I found this 07 and really there's nothing really wrong with it except messed up clear coat so it'll need a repaint but I have 2 gallons of lime green plasti dip already. Rear brakes and rotors will need replacing within the next year and that's pretty much it. Drove well, shifted well, needs an oil change kind of soon, it was in an accident and has an nj salvage title which this girl can get. But it rode well, heat and ac work and for being a commute vehicle from Vermont to nj, surprisingly no underbody rust. I just wanted to know what you guys think.

Minor details.........

I wouldn't pay $5,000 bucks for a salvage titled car that needs paint work. Even if it has under 100k miles they aren't worth much with a salvage title.

Yeah I think so too. It was in a front end collision and the airbags went off but there was no frame damage, it just got a new bumper

Forget Craigslist too. Look on cars.com or cargurus.com . I saw what looked like a nice 07 Grand Prix GT down on Highlands, 85,000 miles.

It's a unibody. There is no frame.

your kidding with this crap right?

it has sub frames, they bolt where? yup the unibody, it all can bend if hit hard enough.

in the end thats to much money for that car. north NJ cl has a few 04 up cars under 3 grand for sale if thats what you want or have to have.

That's correct. A salvage title kills resale. I would keep looking.

For $5,000 you should be able to find a really nice, clean title, never wrecked car.

My GPs have had multiple totals but all have kept clean titles because I kept the "salvage". I even have full coverage on one that had a hit like the car you are looking at. Its my daily driver but I fully repaired it. Until it was fully repaired, liability insurance was all thats allowed.

"Structural damage" is a term that creates less confusion when talking about subframe cars. There are those who insist that a frame is only a frame if its full length and seperate from the body. I'm a bodyman and can promise you that every car has a frame. With unibodies and subframes, some of it does not unbolt. Trucks are whats called "body-on-frame". W-bodies are "subframe cars", they have one front and rear. What I call a unibody would be like a Fox Mustang, where the only part that unbolts is the one with the engine mounts and steering rack attached to a tiny crossmember that does not absorb impact from collisions. GP subframes are definitely part of the impact-absorbing structure.

For the record, just because it has a clean title doesn't mean it hasn't had major damage. A salvage title only means the cost of repair is higher than a certain percent of the value of the car. If there was a collision early in the life of the car it could have been repaired and still maintained a clean title.

I personally could care less about the damage that was done to the vehicle. You can get what should be a totaled vehicle fixed without it ever getting a salvage title.

Once the title is salvage, it kills resale. The word salvage scares most people away. A lot of financing companies won't let you use a salvage title as collateral meaning you might need to take out a personal loan rather than an auto loan.

I just don't see the car that this guy is looking at being worth anywhere near the asking price with the salvage title and the condition it's in.

Yeah I didn't know it was a salvaged title. It's a girl from Vermont who doesn't seem to know much about cars in general and I'm assuming she doesn't have the paperwork from the wreck whenever it was to make the title clean again. Even though the paint sucks, I have plastidip that I was gonna use on my other car. I was gonna offer 4k and stay there since it's already at a low price if it didn't have a salvage title.
