looking to change tranny fluid

So how much of the fluid does it hold? Which fluid does everyone recomend? Also there is a leak we believe to be the seals to the axel is this common?

A little over 7 qts. iirc with a pan drop and filter change. Axle seals can fail, but it is not something I heard of happening frequently.

yeha i herd Dex VI so was planning to get that just wanted to see how much its gunna cost me looks like a decent amount lol. yeah we saw a leak on the car and thought it was coolent but then soon found out it felt different than the coolent so we checked it with the tranny fluid and thought it would be the axel seals so figured id change the fluid when i change the seal might as well.

It's probobly assumed, but make sure you check your trans fluid after the first drive, and then again maybe one week later.

If yours is factory filled with dex VI, thats what you put in.

If not, put synthetic dex III in there.

The fluids are different.

Dex 6 will work just fine, as its been designed to be backwards compatible. Ive been running it in both of my Gps for 2 yrs now and over 65k miles with 0 issues

Dave from TEP recommends Dex III over Dex VI if it was factory filled with dex VI for reasons of viscosity.

Look up the specs on mobil's website.

yeah just use dex6 the extra cost of synthetic isnt worth it

Dex VI costs just as much as synthetic Dex III here.

When I said Dex VI I assumed synthetic was a given. I don't see why you wouldn't use the best if you really do care about your car.

Matt, if you want to start getting all specific on what Dave recommends its CAT oil not Dex III. I stay say Dex VI full syn.

ive read of numerous people having shifting issues after putting the new dex 6 in our trannys. i also just read in this thread a couple people have had no issues with it. i wouldnt chance it. (in fact, i didnt)

I've been running it for a couple months now, its great. I havent heard anyone complain about it that is actually using it, just the naysayers that don't use it.
