Looking to buy gtp

u know u'll be told no pulley swap just yet. depending on goals. headers are a better investment than plog d/p. think about how far u wanna go before hand. get rid of ubend first thing though. s/c oil and coupler maybe $30 bucks. homeade 4" fwi and filter $50 ??. u bend delete under $30. makes a different car.

i figured i may run the 3.5 pulley which according to zzp gives 20hp. but i may not waste time with it and just jump to the 3.4. what else would i need to run the 3.4? do i need the plog or headers? i really didnt want to do headers or the plog. i figured the downpipe and maybe delete/replace the resonator, the intake and maybe a 180 stat might be enough?

seriously read the modding your 3800 safely thread. if u don't read these stickies pertaining to your questions, some folks blow up. if i were in your shoes:aeroforce scanner, $230 new?, i think?.. this way u'll know if you have knock retard(bad, ) or not.somecars need cai, plog exhaust, plug, thermostat, just to keep from knocking on a stock pulley. just read that sticky. common knowledge is that a kr(knock retard) free stock pulley car, will run circles around a knocking smaller pulley car. u can't always hear kr. when u do, its too damn late........READ brother,(and i don't mean that in a smart ars way )later dude.

yeah ive read it at least a few times by now. it really just says what mods you should do and unless i missed it, it doesnt say which of the mods are required to drop down to a 3.4. im just trying to see if i need to spend the extra dough on a plog. i guess i could search for the answer :)

if u can spend the $$$$$$, headers will only be a little more than a plog and down pipe,(dp or d/p) i found my headers 2 months ago for 150 shipped, used, i spent 100 coating them at my buddys business, i also welded the crossover to ensure no leaking ,,pace ****ters. i mean pace setters. so i sold the plog and d/p for $210. i've got less than $50 in headers. mid range power is so awesome!!:th_thumbsup-wink:

did the headers come with everything from the cat forward? if so thats a good deal. how hard is the install? i just dont have a lot of time or money to mod my gtp. i have a family now and i can really only get away with a few hours here and there and a few bucks here and there for mods. but if headers are doable ill definately consider it.

also ill have to look into this aeroforce scanner.

most header will have a d/p to connect to the cat, u'll have to check....not too hard to install, just put the frontend on jack stands and don't rush and use the copper high heat rtv to healp seal. i have a family too, 17 yr ols senior and my son 14 in 9th grade and he wrestles for the school. me and wife are in last semester in school starting back next week. my credit is phucked and i'm almost always broke so i know modding is ruff when u have ideas and no $$$. what u can do till u get the $$ for the right headers is to keep stock pulley on, do the other mods and take off the front manifild and port/gasket match itto the gasket. its temporary but it might help a little.

also read what others do and have done, just don't drop pullies yet, it cost alot more if u pop one of the pistons. get/ borrow an aeroforce gauge and see what motor is doing now. be patient and safe!

thanks a ton for the advise. i looked into that aeroforce gauge and its simply awesome. i must save up for it.

SSAC's are the cheapest, 350 shipped is quite a deal considering the cost of a PLOG and a downpipe.

That thread is a little oddly written. Basically, you have to do the mods listed above where it mentions pulley drop to 100% safely drop to that size pulley.

yeah and one of them is porting the blower housing, i doubt you need to port the blower before you run a smaller pulley.

i ported my s/c housing when i did my intake gaskets, it was off so why not? i already had aluminum cutter bits in various sizes and shpes. just search on the forums and internet about the shape and do not touch the silencer ports at all.(maybe seal them if anything, but thats preference issue)...check the inlet too and make sure the t.b. doesn't underhang the inlet. u can find some ebay headers for a good price, just be patient if the mod bug isn't killin u.;)

Typically DP + PLOG, colder plugs, 180* T-stat, tune, intake then a 3.4 pulley.

Whats better is to port the blower, get headers and then have a killer 3.4 setup because you can then run more timing.

OR you could try to run a smaller pulley.

Both = more power.

awesome thanks! someone should make a pulley size cheat sheet and sticky it.

Good Thread here. I'm kinda in the same boat as i just purchased my Regal Gs (SC) in August and it's still stock :P

do exhaust mods first, and cai of some type, then u don't have to worry about any more exhaus t stuff. me? i might actually try mufflers soon.

yeah i want to do some kinda cai as soon as possible. its a pain in the butt to take the stock unit off to change the filter. i couldnt even get it off, my fingers started hurting after a while of pulling on it.

If you think thats bad... just wait till you try to change the plugs...

yeah seems like a pain to reach the rears but doable. i can at least reach back there with my hand and pull out the wires, theres some cars where even doing that is a pain. im sure with removing the dog bones and rolling the motor forward it will help. got any tips for removing the intake? do i just undo the two top latches and then pull it off the tbody?
