Looking to buy a Grand Prix

you have a large oil leak hitting the mount, thats what helped kill it, oil eats rubber. find and fix that leak or you'll be doing the mount again next year.

my oil pan was leaking on the mount, this is the one i took out soon after i got my car.

this is what was left of the mount in the mounts bucket where it sits in the frame.

it was dead a year or so later, cause the oil leak never stopped.

the year old or so replacement and the solid one i made. i also coated the top of the mount with polyurethane to keep the oil off the top of the mount.

Honestly did not see any oil leak in the area. It appears most of it was from the oil filled mount itself that had exploded, lol. But ill monitor that.

take a peek at in it a few days see if its wet. if the nuts were wet and the bracket was wet, its leaking oil.

you can also tel if the oil pan looks sweaty or if theres oil drops on the bolts heads to the pan.

this mess was all oil pan leak. i tried to do a rig up seal job, cleaned up and smeared rtv at the seam, still no help.

Ahhm Makes sense idrivejunk, thanks!

Thank you Scotty! for the 23 bucks we spend on the mount, I would rather do that once a year over tackling the oil pan on this car, lol.

oil pans no fun in the car, thats for sure. that engine came out cause i killed it, now i got a fully re gasketed engine in there now, no leaks to be found, such a treat really lol

Fully re-gasketed engine must be nice, SD. I need to do that.

Stoenr, Hosing things down with carb cleaner then drying with compressed air periodically (or that and wiping with towels if no air) can chase away some of the dirt magnet oil leakage so it doesn't cake up on everything. Just keep in mind that the solvent is as bad for rubber as the oil is. But the oil stays wet and continues to cause damage whereas the solvent dries fast.

Great idea. The kid left that oil filter cover off by accident, so he will have easy access to do this now, lol. Parts left over after job complete. 1 plastic shield, hmm.

you'll want to put that back on, it keeps water from hitting the belts when you hit puddles. even on the oil filter is easy to get to.

ive never taken that shield off except for when i had to take the balancer off.

this is a shot i took for all the guys who say they cant fit a ratchet in there lol the shield was still on. and thats what a leaking pan also looks like lol

Yeah, he still has a month before he can get his license to get things fixed, will get that cover back on.

I need to look into why the trunk release doesn't work from remote or trunk button. Reverse lights good, fuse good, don't think its getting power back there. Im not the best when it comes to electrical, I will admit that. Time to call on pops, he retired 2 months ago from a lifetime working at Goodyear with all the right tools.

open the trunk, near the hinge is a wire harness, open it up look for a busted wire in the area where it passes through into the trunk.

if the wires look good. next step is to take the actuators plug off, its near the key for the trunk but on the inside, and test for power when you hit the button or the key fob. if you have power the actuator is bad.

I did see to plugs at the latch assembly, and only checked the one with the 2 wires for power. I did not open up the wire harness yet, the wire loom sleeve looked good, aka no bents, dimples, smashed look anywhere. But of course, should split it open and have a looksie. Thanks!

where it bends is where you'll find a break. mine was all messed up, no power to any thing in the back, but the back up lights and trunk popper.

i have a regal, so that same harness powers up my tail lights, lic plate light, back up lights and the trunk release.

Thanks again! will check it or at least have him check it. He lives with his mom (x-wife) about 35 min away, so its not always near me to rip it apart.

You guys are great, remind me of my Mustang forums I belong too!

I was going to say engine mount since it only shook when torque (acceleration) was applied. Must have been really bad. I have had bad mounts before with never that bad of symptom. You got it looking real nice. Wish my first car was a head turner.

Well the shake kinda never went all the way away after the mount, and recently got much worse, so had to dig in and figure it out. The entire car was shaking under acceleration, was pretty scary.

Drivers side axle, toast! replaced both, drives like a dream!
