looking into Sundown





To be blunt there is cheap bass for let's say high school teenager budget - $100 3000w amp and $50 1000w subs
those cheap set ups give bass but it sounds like a garbage truck driving over speed bumps
you mentioned sundown audio - ok. Competition grade sub but you're pairing it with poop amp.
To successfully feed a sub like thsr you need clean strong power and good air space

look at cheater amps to save money if you must have good power but on a budget. The AUDIOPIPE apcl 15001d comes to mind. Look at its internals and watch the YouTube dyno.

I personally want out of the teeny brand equipment like audiobahn and kicker and seeked for middle ground. Like the american bass xfl1244/xfl1222 and the same amp as mentioned above. I would never turn back to my L7s or CVRs I had years ago

Two cheaper subs with lower excursion shouldn't be any different than a single long throw unless it's a 15". It's more expensive to make a respectable long throw sub. Although, sub installs that are cleaner typically are perceived as lower output due to lower distortion.

The biggest issue with output is location/placement since it makes harder to match with mid woofers. Btw, Sundown uses a Korean build house for their amps and they do a great job. Customer service is top notch. I wouldn't shrug them off. Their 8's do very well with small enclosures too. I think it'll be plenty for you. I'm pretty sure they have setups that reach into 140's with just two 8's.
 
Btw, with everybody arguing over brands and power requirements I think you'd be very surprised to hear "500 watts" hit 140's and even 150db. I think you need to research customer support above all when it comes to your amp. It's hard to know what you're getting into and you may even purchase an amazing amp to drive it all....but one mistake and you're done. At that point, how well do they support your product?

Everybody has their opinion but bass is bass. There's nothing magical about amplifying that signal. Just find something that fits your needs.
