• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Looking for a new tuning laptop

I believe you are tuning with DHP?

If so..that's a good price
If not.. HPT does work on tablets.

I tune with quite a few different programs. It does need to work with DHP though, and that seems to be the limiting factor. Everything else still has support.

Best Buy was the cheapest I could find it anywhere, which surprised me.

I use a 7 yr old To****ba running windows XP.
I think it has like an intel centrino processor lol

Works mint! :)

LOL. I've been using XP laptops since I started. They are showing their age though. Hardware issues are popping up. Plus, they keep yelling at me since XP isn't supported by Microsoft anymore.

I like checking around at newegg and amazon as well. the last laptop I bought was from bestbuy, and it was the best price available for that machine. there might be some other machines that are cheaper. I prefer the intel chipset over amd.

the one you posted is a good laptop for just runnin round doing simple stuff (tuning included); however, if I were you I would run into best buy and actually see what they have. Usually there is a 299-399 laptop with an i5 processor, go find it and report back lol. I worked there for 4 years.

I would sooner buy an old IBM Thinkpad T60/T61 before the one you posted. Think about it you are going to be getting in and out of cars with it, it is going to get bumped around, dropped, what have you. The old ThinkPads were built like tanks, had decent processors in them, huge battery packs (plus you can get bigger ones, I had a T60 that I could run 12 hours on per charge), awesome screens (Plus screen real estate), made from metal not plastic.

Buy one for $150, slap in a 128GB SSD (you'll want one because of road vibrations HDD don't like that), throw in some Ram, and have spent about $250-300 with a durable laptop that pretty much still benchmarks with the one you posted, but will last alot longer.

While I agree on the SSD thing, I dont think its that big of a deal for what he is going to be doing. Rare tuning, Regular user an SSD isnt all that important

That's what I was advised to do 2 years ago. So I bought a t61. I've got all kinds of software and hardware problems with it. Especially when running on the battery. Half of my track passes never get logged because of it.

I looked around for a used laptop to use for tuning. I couldn't find one that had a good battery, and the ones I did find that a new battery was available for, were too much to justify. The laptop I use now has the I5 and I like it. my last machine had the I7 and it did run faster, but I am still happy with my new one.

Was that with windows7 or XP? I've done W7 installs on 2 of those XP Thinkpads and they rock

I bought this i3 for my daughter at the Buy a month ago...then it was 350.
I just dont like AMD anymore and I use to be an AMD fanboy.

that says a lot considering the I3 is like the cheepo of all the intel processors. I had bad luck with a desktop I built like ten years ago, and it had an amd processor, since then I have had no reason to look elsewhere to replace whatever machine I have that had an intel chipset.

It has xp installed on it.

I will take a look at best buy and see what they have as for cheap i5 processors.

I'm nervous about buying a used laptop after last time.
