Line lock W/ ABS?

I know you can do it with abs but im not sure you can do it on our cars because of the way the brake lines are run. I belive to install a line lock 1. It has to be after the abs unit. And 2. It has to be inline with a single brake line that splits off to both wheels and placed before the split off. Or else you would need 2 silinoids. One for each wheel.


So if someone would explain to me 1. If there are 4 individual brake lines. ! to each wheel and 2 if this will work like i think it will.
 


I'm doing this because my 50 dollar p-brake pads in no way shape or form come any where close to holding the car still. P-brake is adjusted all it can be and the adjusters inside the disk ''drum'' were also adjusted properly.
 
so your using this as a park brake?
if so I would think you could wire up one wheel if need be. check to make sure it doesnt bleed off after awhile.
 
get two 2 into 1 brake line splitter. have both brake lines go into the splitter then into the solenoid, and then back out into another splitter to bring it back into 2 lines. or have 2 solenoids.....

Good Question! I've actully been researching this starting this week too! I've gave up on having a good working parking brake, and i've replaced everything too. I want to use a Line lock not only for the track, but for a parking brake too if at all possible. I'm hoping i can get this to work, I need help though. Like I said I want both feature to work.

I just need to figure out how I can keep the rear calipers engaged when parked. When do you plan on trying this mod TDC? If you do it, can you explain how and maybe get some pics? I wanna do this ASAP, but I need to learn more first. I really need to find a way to lock up the rear end.

I donno what brand you plan on using, I'm thinking Hurst. Mostly because I knew people who ran that brand back in the day with great success.

Will the portioning valves get in the way of this setup? I've been wondering that too...
 
Well the mounting location is more the problem for me right now. I am going to try to put it near the back of the car. The are 4 individual brake lines i belive. Wich like urlosin said I would have to us a combonation of spliters. A 2-1 into the line lock and a 1-2 out of the line lock. I'm sure some flaring tools and some brake lines will be in order. Wich is no big deal because i've done it before on the mustang no problem. Brake line is cheap also. Yes i was thinking the hurst. I think it's 85 bucks from summit? Thanks for the recomendation on it because i was trying to decide between that and one other one. Yes Brian was wondering how to do this also. So i will make a write up for sure. Have to get under that car and see just how everything looks.


I plan on doing this within the next cupple weeks. But if you want to figure it out before me go ahead LOL
 
I don't think the proportioning valves will hurt it any because it will be mounted after the abs box ect. And if the LL will stay on power wise and the brakes stay pressureized then it should work as a p-brake also. Wich i dont see why it wouldnt.

Mounting is a concern too, not quite sure on how to do that yet. Its been years since i've seen a line lock setup, and even then it was on an old school car so thats no help. The brake lines and flaring tools are going to be the hard parts. I'd have to buy the tools to do this stuff and besides, I hate brake work! LOL. But I wanna do this so I really have no choice. I figure if I can get this to work as good as i think it could (2 locked calipers will be stronger than ANY parking brake IMO) i'll completely remove all the parking brake crap off the car, pedal and all. Unless I could some how trigger it with the parking brake pedal (hummmmm, another idea).

I was looking at Summit the other night, I believe you're right on the price. Did you notice they sell kits for F-bodies? I'm wondering if one of these kits could be incorperated into our cars? At least pieces of it. Not the lines obviously.

I donno if you know this or not but the rear proportioning valves are located in the rear. Infact, the drivers side is several inches away from the rubber line going to the caliper (its above the fuel filter). The passenger side is located right by the lateral arm from inches away from the rubber line going towards the drivers side (because the brake lines run up on the drivers side frame rail. Figured i'd point that out. I donno if that helps or hurts planning. Figured i'd let ya know.

You'll probably get yours figured out way before me. Although i'll probably start ordering parts this weekend maybe.

I'm just happy to see someone else wants to do this mod. I was thinking early this week, "wow i'm the only idiot out there thinking about this for a FWD GP" and i'll be damned, you are too! Really? A proportioning valve basicly distributes a certain amount of to each line.(ex. 70/30)..or wheel right? So it cant be on a single line then right?


Yeah shawn we have had a lot of the same ideas. I'm sure we will get this figured out. I'm sure the LL could be wired throught the p brake switch but i think you could get some better reaction times out of the regular switch?? Or...possibly the performance switch button. I have a tuner so i can just make all the tables for normal shift the same as the performance ones
 
well none of them match exactly...but it just gave me a better grasp on how it works and needs to be hooked up
 
I would only use them for a nice smokey burnout. the solenoids do wear out over time, and use a lot of power. I would add a relay into the wiring as it is recommended with nitrous solenoids.

IT has been done on a few FWD's.......... I was looking at my engine bay today. you could mount the solenoid on the firewall to the left of the brake booster. the motor wont go that far back and you are able to run the lines back down in the stock location. either that or you coul put it on the inner wheel well by the cross brace.

Hey Shawn, Probably going to order the TCI or Hurst Monday.....Maybe have it installed by friday for the track? I dunno....I still have to get under the car and check things out. Will probably do that tomorrow.
 
Just something to think about, if using for the e-brake, would it pull too much voltage to kill the batt. And if it does, wouldn't your e-brake be shut off due to the loss of power. Just something that crossed my mind while reading this.
 
Yeah good point. But again I'll just be using this for a line lock at the track. Hopefully going this friday.
