So I have neglected my bad LIM for about a year or so now. My 2005 N/A has about 140000miles on it and I have some symptoms of a bad LIM.

-little bit white smoke out tail pipe.
-coolant very slowing going away (avg 1 quart over 6mths)
-engine temp fluctuating 180-210

1) Now its time to replace them and I need some help with gasket brands. I plan to get the aluminum LIM gaskets from GM. What brand should I do for the others?

2) What brand / type Gasket sealer for the four corners of the LIM?

Felpro Felpro AND...... Felpro. Order from Rockauto Im not sure but I know there was a discount for people on the forum. I saved about $50 if not more ordering it all from Rockauto

Does anyone know what the sealant is called / type that you use when replacing the LIM gasket? You are suppose to put it in the four corners before and after placement.
 
FelPro is a good gasket, the GM gasket IMO is a lot sturdier and better. Take your choice they are both metal framed and should work equally.

On your "symptoms", please understand that the temp fluctuation is normal as your low speed fans come on at ~216F and high speed at ~228F. Orange crud, if coolant was in your oil it would appear that the oil was milky. Gasket Sealer - Permatex Ultra Copper. There is no replacement. :D It is the best.
 


I just changed the oil and did not notice any milky type consistency. Only small tiny bubbles which I am unsure if it is normal.

Since I loose a little coolant over time and with 140000 miles on my GP, what is the proper way of testing to see if i have an internal coolant leak.

pressure test the radiator?

To check if coolant is getting into the oil. Check for the oil to be milky.
To check if coolant is getting into the cylinders (LIM leak), look for white smoke out the tail pipe.

At 140 you may as well do the LIM gaskets, but it's doubtful you'll notice much of a difference in how the engine runs.
 
I have paid attention to exhaust, there is a little white smoke and has a moist feeling when you place you hand behind it.

How does this effect the engine since it has been neglected? The engine runs quite well with 140000.
 
Coolant in the oil will cause all moving parts to slowly degrade.

Coolant in cylinders isn't terrible. Until the leak gets big enough to cause hydrolock.
 
You will also need the plastic coolant elbows, Black Rtv, GM Lower intake (Its better), Valve cover gaskets, (Option), Injector O rings (Option), New thermostat (option) Check your spark plugs and wires this would be a great time to do a tune up. If you want you can also switch over to green coolant, make sure u flush radiator, heater core, the engine block and resivor.
 


I think I got a extra set of those coolant elbows didnt know they cam in sets of 2 from Rock... It will probably cost more to ship that buy but free if ya want em
 
chevyy1212 thanks for the offer on the elbows, I replaced them about 5months ago.

Is this correct plenum gasket set from rock auto, FEL-PRO Part # MS96691

My GP is a 2005 3800 N/A

It looks like it includes the throttle body gasket.

that first pic is incorrect, that is just the upper intake gasket set. the 2nd pic is the lower set, which is what you're looking for. you can get the upper intake set but your current one is completely reusable.
