Hello Im new to this forum and I have a question. I have a 1997 grand prix gt 3.8. I have the famous coolant leaks and Im going to change out the UIM and do gaskets on the LIM.There are two gasket kits one with location pins and one without. How do I know which one to get or do I have to do the tear down first.Im sure this has been mentioned just not sure where to look. Thanks

a 97 block does not have the locating holes on the sides of the lower intake. if you get one with the pins youll need to snip them off.

Like mentioned, get the LIM gaskets from teh dealer. There won't be a choice of first or second design.

As for the locating pins. You don't need to snap them off. They simply hang over the edge of the block w/o anything to grip.

Note the pin holes to the left and right of the lifter valley.

And on a 97, there are no holes.

Agreed. Doesn't matter what gaskets you get, they will work on a 97 either way. No issue.
