LIM Gasket

Today I decided to stop procrastinating and to man up and tackle this job and I think the hardest part was the coolant elbows... Anyways I'm down in the intake and I need some tips on cleaning it out there's a lot of mushy gunk in here. Also is there anything I should do while I'm down here? Also here's some pictures

I'd say shop vac it. You need to clean out as much of that junk as possible. Once back together you will need to do a flush of the cooling system, at least once, possibly more. Until the water comes out clear then you still have crap in the system. I'd be willing to bet the inside of the rad. is clogged up as well.

And backflush the heater core as well. Don't flush in the same direction as the coolant flow or it could clog up worse. Backflush should clean out junk better from my experiences. And no, I don't remember which tube is the inlet on the core, lol... Been too long.

umm when was the last time you washed your engine? also too timing chain and hoses, sensors along with water pump, and for some fun a new cam.

that is bad

1) shop vac up as much as you can
2)clean up the mating surfaces with a razor and shop vac the rest of that **** up
3) clean intake with carb cleaner the best you can and i also suggest taking off the tb and cleaning that right now aswell
4) put on new lim gaskets and make sure you apply a dot of rtv inbetween where the gaskets meet in the corners
5) put on low intake and torque it down
6) put the rest together, coolant elbows plenum, alternator, belts, fuel rails, ect
7) put some coolant flush ( can also use dish soap) in the rad and fill with water.
8) new cheap oil
9) prime the gas by turning the key to on then off and on a couple times befor starting it
10) flush the cooling system over and over with fresh water by letting the car get up to operating temp and turning the blower on high heat, then shutting it off, letting it cool then draining. Rinse and repeat but be careful you can severly burn yourself if you try to drain it while its hot
11) after you flush it and fill it with fresh global 50/50 mix and a new thermostat drain the oil and put in some more new cheap oil
12)Go for a drive and see how she is then change the oil again after with good oil

Edit: oh ya you need injector orings too. I use a little spit to get them seated

you went the hard way with the injectors, you should hav eleft them in the rail, unbolted the rail, and pulled them out of the heads.

that being said, pull the injectors out of the heads, put them back in the rail, get a box of Q tips and brake cleaner to clean the injector holes.

use a razor to clean and scrap the crap off the lim or heads, same for the sc and lim mating areas. wipe every thing down, gasket matting surfaces with with brake cleaner.

clean that crap out of your coolant ports dont let it fall into the lim valley, lay rags under the ports.

do flush the cooling system and core, you got all sorts of dex sludge in there, and the rad cap, or buy a new cap they cost 3 to 5 bucks.

you may want to replace the vac lines and T's because most of the time the ends break when doing the lim job. due to taking the lines off and on.

The rad was leaking so I bought a new one today along with a new condenser, I'm still gonna flush it tho, this gunk is everywhere :(

Ive bought the car a month ago and haven't had a chance to get it detailed I plan on getting it pressure washed after this is all over..

make sure you assemble everything correctly, i went through three motors which i concluded to be improper intake assembly lol still dont know what i did wrong other then my torque wrench may have been off and i didn't tighten the bolts enough so idk

wrong tighting order more than likely.

you want to set the lim on the engine, give it a few hits with your fist, then get the bolts to line up, then work in a X pattern center out, just making each bolt snug, keep doing this till the lim sits flat to the heads and block. then torque them down. when you get back to the first bolt, it will be loose again, so keep going around the lim bolts till they are all snug.

Do you use a torque wrench or just go by feel?

i used a t wrench in the end, but just snug them till all the bolts are snug, and the lim is flush. if you dont have a t wrench, a lot of people do them with out one, just make then good and snug, then a 1/4 turn more, be careful not to make them to tight or they snap. same goes for the sc bolts.

dont forget to coat the lim bolts with thread sealant too. clean the bolts up nice, then re apply the sealant.

iirc i went 12 on the lim, and 17 on the sc bolts. something like that.
