LIM gasket before & after

When I replaced the LIM gasket yesterday, it took me 18hrs! (well 4hrs break, 4 hours due to meticulous cleaning, and doing it in the driveway where it's 25 deg and windy, first time LIM for me.) I took alot of pictures, but I thought I would share some of what I found...

First, the injectors were filthy!

Next, even though this pic is a little blurry, you can see where this gasket is full of FAIL! (even missing chunks...geez)

and now after replacing w/ a new aluminum one

ok, heres an injector hole and valve cover in back(thats a "white" valve cover)

and after cleaning/reinstall new gaskets, the same injector hole...

From now on I'm definitely going to keep my engine clean and degreased! Oil+dirt+sand=YUK!

I am wondering though, I haven't had my engine cover on for over a year, would having it off increase the amount of dirt that gets in all over the place?

My advice is if you're going to do this yourself, make sure you have an extra vacuum line + Ts, they're gonna break. Degrease and clean the darn thing BEFORE you start.

when i did mine i cleaned a ton. makes ya feel good about it though knowing its going back together really clean and perfect.

Looks good! I also had to do alot of cleaning when I did my LIM gaskets a couple of months ago. It was alot of work since I had to replace several parts, but it was well worth it in the end.

lol every time you work on it and fix 1 thing, 3 others break in the process.

tell me about it!! i had to replace my engine b/c of improper maintenance. mine looks 1000X better than when i first got it. i change the oil religiously and i baby it for the most part.
i buy it everything under the sun. it gets new parts and things all the time. folks think im crazy but i NEED a project and something to do. might as well put it into something positive.

Lol yup. I just wish I had more money to put into it. It needs struts and I really want to put an HV3 in it and get a tune. Everytime I work on the damn thing though I come out with hands cut to pieces and it's so sensitive that the simplest job becomes the biggest most complicated problem.

oh yeah i called it every thing under the sun BUT i'd never let anyone look at it the wrong way. sucker for that green bucket of bolts lol

yeah that's what i tell people it's not the car or the engine, it's the little stuff that GM put with it. like plastic UIM, poor electronics, etc.
but since it wants to be a sensitive little whore i curse at it. but only i can do it. lol

Yikes I wonder if my engine is that dirty....my front valvecover USED to be dirty....not a spec of dirt on it now. I never looked down by the injectors or anything though.

If you've had leaky valve covers, more than likely dirts gonna stick to the oil and create goo. By the way, the part of the LIM next to the T-stat with the bolt down inside, well that was covered in about an inch of oily crud including a small piece of dried out french bread.. :th_nervous: I have NO idea how that got in there, or WHEN

wow, how many miles? I had the biggest grin when my car started the 1st time, congrats :th_thumbsup-wink:

including a small piece of dried out french bread.. :th_nervous: I have NO idea how that got in there, or WHEN
:th_laugh-pointup:
rotlmao... I just found a piece by my hood hinges, then found another 5" piece on top of my PCM, that was there at least 2 months.... I don't get it?

nice work man! i have to look forward to this very soon...water pump change out as well...i have a feeling i will be cleaning A LOT!! 102k miles and never been cleaned. i should take injectors to get cleaned and rebuilt while i have car apart.

and let the guy be!! maybe he was eating while workin on the car, called it a night and forgot about the bread..i have done it..but didnt leave it there when i seen it next morning lol.
